I think FD deserve another 4 months personally. I do think the game was released 6 months too early, so by the end of May, should we not see significant improvement, THEN we will have a genuine right to complain.
One of the biggest screw-ups for me was not having wings implemented on day one. I could forgive a lot of the other bugs, and missing features, if I could just group up and play with my friends consistently.

Would you rather not have played it at all, while waiting for whatever bits you expect from a "finished" game?

Secondly - To the op - you're not satisfied with this game and the speed of development/direction - and you think that the best thing to do about that is to completely demoralise the only ppl (the devs) who are ever going to be able to do anything about that!!! - Great strategy!!

Yes... yes I would, rather have waited. A bad experience can forever taint your outlook on something. First dates are important, test drives are important, the first page of a book is important... first impressions count for a lot in general.
ED isn't a "bad" game, by any stretch of the imagination, but there's a lot of features that should really have been in at launch (Wings, working local/system chat function etc) and that really annoys me. Also, there were quite a few members of the dev team who were unhappy with the state of the final release apparently. Knowing that it was unacceptable to launch without the features (and some others) that I mentioned.
I have no dream team that I would ask for, however, I do believe that a year or two more development should have been done before release. Content is a very important part of a game and I'm afraid this game has practically none. Apart from the online play only which I hate and the method of SC travel instead of the time distortion, it is almost an updated copy of the original Elite with no storyline at all. Essentially, it's the original Elite with better graphics (but without the Thargoids and half the ships in the game missing).
Considering DB has had many years to develop something better, since he did announce Elite 4 well over 10 years ago and then made excuses to get out of actually making it, he has had all that time and significantly more to devise more content and better immersion than just the basic Elite game. From my point of view, this is a rewrite of the original elite with a few aesthetic bells and whistles that do nothing but look good. No thought has gone into the game whatsoever and only now, are they cooking up new things. Even Frontier and First Encounter had more content than this game currently has. 20 years later and the best they can come up with is a remake that really could have been made in 6 months and even then, they left out half the ships.
Disappointed? You bet I am!

Perhaps I'm just naive -- but why did you then not wait until the game had met your expectations?
Why did you decide, instead, that you would play it and complain about it? Why not just, y'know, quit? We, who are still playing contentedly and looking forward to more goodies to come, we enjoy it, and we don't really need to know why you don't like it.

Since when does the date of joining the forum dictate your level of competence? That maybe true of you, however some of us out here actually are rather well Intelligent... I myself am a scholar, scientist and business person. I think I know a lemon business strategy when I see one. The only reason I can see to release ED in such a state was a clear effort to raise cash... perhaps they had cash flow issues? Though they obviously didn't consider the damage to the game that would ensue upon releasing a substandard product.

Absolutely! I would have rather waited until it was in a fit state to release. Perhaps next time you go out to a restaurant, consider this... Why don't you pay for your meal up front? Only to be given a plate with vegetables... only to be told that the rest will come in time... oh and by the way if you want Meat... you might have to pay again...

Do you have a source on that please? I would love to add those that were unhappy to the new Dev team!
When a development house releases a game, it is expected that there will be tweaks needed.... it isn't however expected that the game will be missing most of the content. If Fdev had stated that the game was a platform or a work in progress then they wouldn't have gotten so many purchases... it's false advertising and it's bordering on Criminal.

Even if you had the money there is no guarantee that the you'd be able to buy out the company - DBOBE is the majority shareholder, after all....
This is just silly. Your words suggest that, when a game is released, no further improvements should be made as that would cause it be regarded as having been unfinished when it was released. Anyone that considers anything "finished" is deluding themselves.
I think you're on thin ice here.
