FDev - Can we have some kinda annual FDev exhibition in Australia?

As the title says, any chance of having an exhibition down under? It would be awesome to be able to attend as Europe is oh so far away and not viable in RL for so many of us otherwise. :)

Don't worry, the chances of my turning up are prety low.
Darwin is a LONG way from anywhere.

It's one christmas in three to head down south unless its a funeral.

This is the problem with an Auscon; where would you put it? Anywhere is inconvenient for the other 3 parts of the country that might want to attend.

It would have to be fan-driven and fan-funded, as we don't have any big gaming conventions that would make it commercially viable for FD.

Even then it would almost certainly be a Sydney/Melbourne event (as that's where everything happens), so the likes of me in Perth and DNA-Decay in Darwin being able to attend are remote (literally).

I think this has been asked in the past, last I heard the answer was boiled down to:
Make it, make it big and it may happen.

Don't quote me on that though.

Pretty much how "Elite Meet" and "Lavecon" and the others started out. Groups of players gather, post awesome stuff, get some events running and player groups there and start things. If it gets a good reception with a lot of Elite fans in attendance then invite the devs along for the next year, keep making it bigger and better.
Best idea is to piggyback a games convention. Have an "unofficial" Elite meet-up one of the days before/after for drinks and chat about the game etc.

Short answer is - It's just as inconvenient for you to get to Europe as it is for the Devs to get to AUS. Give them a clear and solid reason to go (an established, popular event ideally alongside a games convention).
The big thing right now is if they take you up and put an event on, travel all that way with some of the team (38-44hrs flight time round trip and £1200 per head just on flights) then say 50 people attend its a long expensive way for a relatively small event bearing in mind most people will already have bought the game so it's not like the multiple thousand pound outlay has a high chance of being paid back in sales..
Give them the guarantee of a big event and theres a much better chance of them saying yes to year 2 or year 3.

What would an Australian event exhibit? Lavecon looks more like a slightly large pub event that a gaming convention. We've already got that sorted without 3kly of travelling.

As much as it would be great to see the Devs on this side of the world, I would be happy just with the occasional live stream that isn't 2am start or patch time that isn't prime gaming time in our region.

PAX South is in Melbourne this year. Although I don't know if Frontier are attending.
