Since much discussion is generated on the topic of DB said this, or MB said that, etc I posted my compilation of FDev source references on the Quest for Raxxla thread for others to use. It was suggested that it should be in its own thread for everyone to access & I’m happy to oblige. Please feel free to add your own source references as and when. Perhaps we’ll eventually figure out who uttered that important little nugget of information that clarifies life, Stella (intentional codex-related pun) Forge, and Raxxla! (I was going to say “life, the universe and everything” but it’s already been done; the answer was 42
).
Edit: my intention is for this thread to act solely as a repository of source references, with no discussion-I would ask people to start their own threads for that.
Edit2: When I started this thread by pasting in my list of FDev reference source vids (plus my notes) the forum software expanded the urls to show the start of the video, which then seems to really slow down the page update and makes it a little buggy. Having taken advice (I’m an Internet antiquated luddite ) the only way to stop that expansion happening seems to be to remove the ”https://” from the start of each url, so have done so. The remaining part of each link still seems to work if pasted into my ios Safari browser “paste & search” so guess it will be the same for others.
Woohoo! The forum software inserts these shortened urls in brown text and automatically expands them when clicked. I’ve learnt something new!
CAUTION!
These references are for historical interest and lore research only. Clearly the game design and implementation may well have changed since some of these statements were made!

(26:00) where’s Raxxla? It’s out there, the payoff would have to be great

(1:45:40) Don’t accept anything on face value, evidence should be investigated.
(1:49:44) GC mentioned the long standing rumour that an FD representative had said the Raxxla system had been entered & honked but Raxxla was not discovered (Arthur-it was rumoured to have been Michael Brookes saying this in a closed Q&A session! See m.twitch.tv/cmdrascorbius/clip/SnappyScaryMousePupper. Last year MB declined to comment on this rumour

Simon Brewer: “The number on Federation stations is an ID code, which is generated from the co-ordinates/name of the star system that the station is located in. The idea is that the Federation is more impersonal than Alliance or Empire, and that an ID code is more important to them, being larger and more visible than the actual name of the station. If you look at Alliance or Empire stations, you'll see that the name is more prominent, giving a more personal feel.”

"You don't know what I've seen. I've sailed beyond the Formidine Rift, seen the fleets of Octagonal ships blocking out the stars. I've stood on lost worlds, sterilised clean by the Thargoids and erased from humanity's maps. I've seen the graves from the Thargoid wars, countless headstones stretching beyond the curvature of the horizon, little spots of reflected light dottering the abandoned continent ..."
Mission/Superpower reputation/ranking
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...-provide-rank-progression.336994/post-5277153
"All missions which provide reputation provide rank progression. Rank progression is directly derived as a function of the reputation earned with a superpower-aligned faction during a mission.
...Even if the top end of allied is the cap for an individual faction, you can still earn reputation, you just don't get a change in reputation. When a mission ends, if it wants to give a reputation award it will tell the webserver that. At the same time, it calculates the superpower "skill" that corresponds to that reputation award and tells the webserver to apply that, too. If the webserver comes back and says "Sorry, nope, the commander is already the most beloved, the apple of this faction's eye; I'm not gonna increase their rep", this doesn't block the superpower skill from increasing."
Mission system
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/is-the-game-rigged-or-is-it-just-me.516285/post-7876292
FD (Dom Corner): The mission system is not and has never been aware of your ship or cargo while generating missions. All it knows about any particular player before the mission list hits the client is their ranks, reputations, and unlocked engineers." Economy, state, and government type are the primary factors on availability and prevalence of mission types at a given market.
David Braben:
“There are missions out there I know almost no players have seen,”....I wasn’t making friends with the minor factions. I was missing out on missions. And most players do that,” he says. “It’s a shame, because the missions actually drive you around the galaxy. But if you keep going back to the same place, you won’t venture very far.

he talks about invitation to join a secret organisation as being an event that happens at a certain point in a player’s progression/journey through the game.
At 7:35 he said “now we’ve got the beta, we’ve got the house & now we’re adding the story, the furniture that makes it a really rich game. At 8:20 it does have a story, but it’s not a single-player threaded “rescue the princess” style story, it’s a story of your progression through the game, we will have things that happen to you at certain stages through the game, you’ll get invited to join things, if you get invited to join a secret organisation that’s a thing that can happen to lots of players, if you don’t get that invitation you’ll think to yourself why? I did kill that policeman the other day maybe I need to get my reputation higher”.

Federation Space Port Numbers (FSP)
forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/stations-labelled-with-fsp.140306/post-2149575
Simon Brewer: “The number on Federation stations is an ID code, which is generated from the co-ordinates/name of the star system that the station is located in. The idea is that the Federation is more impersonal than Alliance or Empire, and that an ID code is more important to them, being larger and more visible than the actual name of the station. If you look at Alliance or Empire stations, you'll see that the name is more prominent, giving a more personal feel.”

Knew I remembered the quote about Thargoids, beyond the FRift,Octagonal ships blocking out the stars...
elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Project_Dynasty:
“John Harper, author of And Here The Wheel, wrote in a Kickstarter comment:

Accessing Elite missions as a noob -is not possible as missions only scale to a few ranks ahead or behind your current rank https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/should-missions-now-be-rank-locked-again.559813/post-8825388
A few missions have a minimum rank of Elite
Should Missions now be Rank locked again?
I'd like to see the ability to take lower-ranked combat missions (for example), even as a higher-ranked player. I'm trying to help a new player get some experience with these types of missions. Since this player has shied away from these missions, he has no good idea for which one to select on...
Missing Elite/Founder missions (Raxxla/TDW-related)
Adam B-W: I will try to look into this, they should still be available. Obviously this doesn't seem to be the case.
