FDEV has missed the biggest opportunity for history making game play, to date!

Making the Thargoids indestructible, is the single biggest mistake you could have possibly made!

Now we can all guess at what is coming next to make this narrative stretch out as long as possible.
We can expect CG's to collect something, to make something.
Errands to run to unlock engineers or weapon smiths etc.
I have no idea what form the game is going to take to enable the players to get the anti Thargoid hardware.
But I hope it is made interesting and varied.
Not just a rehash of what we have done for the last 3 year but with different name tags over the top.

Back on point. By making the Goids indestructible, you have removed the opportunity, the first in the games history of giving players a reason to band together against impossible odds.

Imagine if you will, that if enough players worked together. Managed to drop 8+ fully engineered PVP grade death machines, into an instance with a single Goid. Then coordinated with healing beams, point defence, maximum dps loadouts and the willingness to loose nearly the entire fleet. They managed to kill a single Thargoid.

Can you imagine how much content and fun that would be? Then on top of that, big praise for giving a reason for Co-Op game play it would have produced.

Even the PVP gank squads would stop and work together on a challenge like that.

But no.. We get a God Mode Flower that cannot be killed no matter what, forcing us down the oncoming grind to get weapons.
It will be a grind of some type because if the game just gives us the Goid weapons, the whole story will be dead in a week.

You also know that the Goid weapons will be strong enough to allow SINGLE players in SOLO to get a victory, which means any opportunity for a multi winged organised team to test their metal on a worthy PVE foe.. its pretty moot!

Having to lose almost an entire fleet to kill a goid without weapons, would not have effected the end narrative in a huge way.
It would still mean people had to do all you had next but wow, just for a moment it would have been cool!

You still have the chance FDEV, with some Goid super mother ship to let this be a thing!

...I don't have ever have 8 friends online at once, let along nearby, let alone willing to take part of combat. Lol

Plus they're only invincible for like 19 more hours. If the CGs work as expected. Lol

IMO, this entire thargoid thing is nothing but a player base pew pewing babysitter to substitute for core gameplay within existing elements.

...and it looks like the head of a sunflower to boot!!! Charlie brown's red baron looks more badazz than this!!
 
You can also expect the weapons will not be good enough. You can expect that we will not have a means to defend our selves for a while also. Because that will be another boring cg.

The thargoids may eventually rise up to try and stop our weapon race. They may also ramp up their weapon usage. Because they may well have more options for combat than what we have seen.

We still can not even tell what level their 'hull' is, or even what type. Yup... a good time to just play another game because this, is going to be a slow, tedious grind of going no where. For months. Because they said specifically, "Months and months of stuff being rolled out over time."
 
I think what your are asking for will come, when we get those special weapons.

I still fear we will be outclassed just that we will be able to gang up on them and give them a bit of stick back.

I am sorry but did you really expect anything else than another reskined USS with an indestructible elite reskined fed corvette?
This game has to cater to the solo cmdrs, they will never make something that only can be accomplished with a wing.
How hard do you assume the reskined npcs will be in order to avoid the whailing of a soloist with only 30min play time per week of it being "Overpowered"?
 
Its sad but i am afraid its true.

Now i watched Goid on Youtube and even not have a will to fly to it 30 minutes to pleiades, got rebuy, then back. I can watch it in YT without wasting my time.

And what if i grind for anti-tharg weapon? i will destroy few then wait for 3.0.

Only one thing may keep me in game. Its a cooperation with other players with uber ships to defeat an uber Goid.
I even do not want to waste my time on shooting to other players. I played pvp since release. Now got bored. I ganked people long time ago. Got bored. I was on exploration, saw incoming star in few colours few thousand of times.
After three years i would like to do something what will allow me to use these all gear i collected. I do not want to ride on planet again, i do not want to farm CIF's or any other crap in the same rehashed way.
 
I agree OP, +1. Instead of Thargoids having a big impact (per the hype train), they've dropped in another placeholder. If weapons don't show up tomorrow, this will be a big fat nothing burger. I've already had my "fun" with the Thargoids and have returned to the bubble hoping for something more substantial in the 2.4 release.
 
OP is bang on.
FDEV you need to do something BIG with this game fast, otherwise you may as well give your server code out to Mobius and let your development team leave and find meaningful employment elsewhere. I like Elite, one of my top all time favourite games, but it is going down the pan fast.

They can have small, medium and large ships.
Smaller for random interdictions everywhere around, killable by a single commander IF his/her ship is very well armed. Let's say a good pilot in a fully upgraded fdl should have a somewhat decent chance.
Mediums at certain keypoints or linked to missions maybe. Very difficult for solo players but not impossible.
And the large ones for groups.

This whole USS thing has to go though. Random encounters on misjumps, border worlds near that nebula, auto generated mini CG missions, and of course full on CG's.
So many possibilties to satisfy us all.
Of course this is pure armchair game designer talking here :)

In previous expansions i got new ship on day0, new weapons, coloured stations and finally engineers - the best and both the worst expansion (best, because i have something to do and it is giving a lot of possibilites, worst, because of horrible RNG). Even multicrew with holo-me was 'something'. It was nothing valuable for me, but it was something what i used few times. I created avatar on day 0 and used fighter to troll and Founders. At least i used it.

Now i on day0 got iddqd flower and streams with folks whose are dying over and over and still tried to do something when everyone know its iddqd.

I just downloaded 2.4, went to teamspeak, talked with clanmates, spent 30 minutes in station, watch some stream, then went watching some third-class action movie in tv.
