I have spent 2 goddamn days looking for CIF scanning the stupid settlements and nothing.
I spent money for this game in hope to have fun, remember?
How is this supposed to be fun?

Put down the crack pipe already and increase the drop rate!!!!
This is ridiculous.

Did you check out the mission boards? I get all my CIF from missions. If you mission run from a station where you have good reputation, you should get mission rewards that include 4 CIF at a time. It'll still take you a while, but you should have enough after a couple of hours of play.

missions in Elite arent fun at all!

i rather do 1000 settlement runs before i even think about doing missions for it!

It gave me one all day. With being ally to all factions in the system that is in boom.

If you are so inclined and you need in game currency you can also go to quince (again, depending on how you feel about it) and scan the data point repeatedly. It is slower than base runs but still gets a few, while ranking up empire and giving nice moneyz.

Stop grinding keep an eye on mission boards whilst getting on with something else, it'll turn up.

This is how I approach engineers as well. If you make it a grind it will be a grind. You can still have fun without engineer upgrades. Most of my ships only have a few. Just get the stuff when you see it.

Perhaps this might help:

Was that from one station? When I'm looking for specific materials (which doesn't happen often, as I like to collect them while doing other things so usually have a reasonable stash), I'll mission run between a handful of stations and keep an eye out for the material I'm after. I've never bothered board flipping or mode switching, as that is far more tedious than flying to another station!

Though what I have noticed is that whenever there is a particular material you are after, suddenly it is very hard to find. I'd love to know how FD managed that. :D

2 days of scanning and no CIF? Wow, that's bad luck. I hope it gets better for you soon.

Really, I'm not trying to rub salt in your wounds, but I've been on the verge of dumping my extra CIF for some time and keep getting more. I just can't bring myself to dump it. I wish I had some advice for you. It looks like you're doing the right things.

Don't buy a lottery ticket.

One tiny silver lining on the Nui Hsung Fed rank grind was about 25 CIFs over 3 levels. And I was sometimes avoiding planetary scans where *I think* they show up more as mission rewards.

The "I" in CIF is for Industrial.
Be allied to factions on a good, wealthy Industrial system.
CIF pop up there quite often.

Interesting, I hadn't noticed that. I'll keep an eye out. I have a good variety of stations on my rounds. :) Have you noticed similar applying to other materials?

Why? Even if you don't find missions fun, if you saw an easy delivery mission that would take five minutes and would give one or two units of the CIF you need, surely that would be worth doing?

I see these being offered all the time as rewards for missions in my home system (Tun).
