@fdev regarding col 70

Is this a region that has content or is it indeed being reserved for another date? I ask because it doesn't make sense to restrict systems so far from release without a reason. Are these accessible, perhaps permits can be acquired by means other than faction rewards?

Ty

I've heard rumors of dozens of reserved systems out of the bubble. I speculate they are placeholder for future content (alien life/Thargoids?). I hope this doesn't affect explorers too much

Was there today. I wanted to visit the stellar nursery at Orion. Came from the Witchhead nebula, and bam! Blocked
Makes no sense to block all those sectors around Barnards Loop. Many players been there already...

The one thing that interested me is that if someone were to find barnacles in or near barnards loop, then the center of plaiedes, barnard's loop, and california nebula is col 70. I've been looking for potential barnacle-ish planets around col 70

If I have it right, at the release of 2.0 FD reserved a number of extra systems for a future purpose. Whether it makes sense or not, only time will tell.

I'm pretty sure I read that in the 2.0 Patch Notes. That seemed pretty good to me. Do they have to fax everyone?

What an arrogant answer. I guarantee you that the huge majority of players is not reading the patch notes... FDEVs communication has been terrible from the very beginning of the project. Lot's of marketing and when things went wrong no clear statements were given but a lot of hot air made up to cover it as well.

Now that they've decided to use this silly online system they could at least utilize it and use the in-game message system or Galnet that these Systems are blocked because <some lore goes here>.

Deep in the 2.0 Patch Notes, under the Beta 1 section, in the General group it mentions new permit systems. At the time Sandro, I believe, got all cheeky about the subject in an interview.

P.S. Sometimes the actual delivery of a comment gets lost in simple text. I was attempting some humor with the fax comment. Who uses a fax machine anymore?

Thanks for the link- very interesting. I've never read one all the way through before. (I know, n00b! :D)

Also, is it just me, or are skins getting thinner around here? :p

In the interest of not getting into one more Forum scrape, I'm going to just blame it on the limitations of text. Maybe I should just come to grips with those smiley face things you see sometimes. I'm afraid I may just use them wrong too. lol. (I have a good handle on the 'lol' thing, that might be away around those faces)

I enjoyed your fax joke. But yes putting a smiley, or more importantly a winkey face almost always gets you away with it. 'Lol', I'm not sure about, just feel like the other person won't take me serious.

Anyway back on topic, I have a shifty feeling something big will happen with the restricted areas within this season, specifically 2.4????

Winkey face? There's another one of those? See, I'm much better off with the 'lol'.

Bring it on! I can always use something else to point my new Huge Multi-cannon at!

I suspect they block off more than they actually need to obscure the true location of the systems they are actually working on.

Well I guess I was lucky not to bump into restricted areas until now. Must be enough systems out there anyway...!,,

This is what doesn't make sense. Unless they actively develop on the production servers, (which they wouldn't) then they don't need to pre-block off space. They would develop it on development server and then just patch it all in at once.

It doesn't make sense to block everything off like this?

Well unless they are planning on structures, both land based and space based. Be pretty weird if somebody had been through that area multiple times and all of a sudden there is an alien civilisation there.

This will happen anyway as those systems are hardly unexplored. Mostly why exploration is so meaningless. Anything interesting is retconned in rather than existing and just waiting to be discovered.

col 70 was not previously blocked off and was likely mapped out already. it's new as of 2.1
