Seems that the most recent announcement of Odyssey did not help to push investor confidence up..perhaps due to future innovation issues..removal of VR support 🤷‍♂️?

Indeed. Investors like to see companies are part of a markets with the potential for growth, and will take their money elsewhere otherwise.

That said, AFAIK, the markets I trade in are not really open at the moment, so I can't do a good comparison with similar stocks. I think we will see more tomorrow.

Hmm, FDev might want to stick to their guns and push out a the expansion ASAP then... another lengthy delay to the only potentially large inflow of cash for ED in years could tank the stock!

Investors may be a little nervous about the success of Odyssey with the lack of VR and unhappy users.

It's never good to remove features having them in place for so long.
Frontier should understand how important VR support has been in Elite.
It's always been one of the first questions asked on any update " Will VR Still be Supported"

I have two Elite Dangerous accounts and wont upgrade any till VR is supported, That's two sales lost

So many troll responses possible to this i can't choose.

Seriously? Maybe they smell desperation because the release date is so far off.. ie somethings wrong and the need to generate interest but thats all they have. Someone should have let them know it was an accident.. they let the ship skin artists have a go at the youtube channel and quality.

Gotta admit someone "boo booed" at frontier though. The first new content in how long, and all people are thinking about is the problems with the next one. Any non enthusiast who by chance wouldn't know about carriers coming out is now wasted.

Any aberrations in the share price would have more to do with stock market insecurity over Covid 19 and exactly 0 to do with Odessy, VR or anything else in that regard as shareholders rarely have any understandings of that stuff.

As you can see though the FDev share price is quite high and healthy and goes through the usual cyclical wobbles any company does.
As it's heading downwards a touch, it's a good time to buy.

On the contrary. While there has been more volatility than usual in the stock market, except for the crash over a month ago, most tech stock share prices have either followed the indexes, or have been correlated to announcements specific to those companies tech.

In fact, right now, more than ever, tech stocks are being watched for exactly what tech they have. In many cases, I have doubled my money lately.

Look at stocks like Emagin, Tesla, Activision, Netflix, and FLIR, Twitter, Uber, Lyft... just to name a few.

As much as you wish it was because of VR, it's not. Return on investment and net earnings went down and the stock value was evaluated as such. Odyssey obviously hasn't made any money for the company. Give some time tomorrow when markets reopen and wait a few days.

Frontier's net grew by more than 40% in the last 5 years. Most investors look at long term if the stock isn't as volatile as bitcoin. Investors ditch if loss is more than 10% aside from Market corrections. This is nothing but a trend. This didn't even put a dent on stockholders who held it since 5 or more years ago.

Stock markets don't react to profits unless something truly unexpected happens. They react to news, when that news comes out.

I agree we will know more tomorrow when the markets reopen.

But really, if the stock goes down, FDev has some responsibility for that. And Odyssey shows that FDev doesn't have any tech assets to bank on.

I would imagine that if this is related to Odyssey announcement (which is doubtful), it probably ties to investor displeasure with the quality of the teaser trailer. Which is a pretty unlikely scenario - investors caring about a teaser trailer that much, I mean.

That said...

When compared to all other trailers, even the oldest, the Odyssey Trailer is obviously third-rate in quality. It reeks of poor story design, the alpha footage is not impressive (save for the environment) for the center-piece feature (legs), and the heavy use of text over actual, enticing imagery is baffling.

This may seem a harsh critique, but even the shiniest of white knights can't ignore this comparison:

Compared to Odyssey trailer, it would be easy to argue we're talking about two entirely different companies, let alone game trailers. How did the quality slide so far? Even the least astute in the gaming business - which a typical investor might be - would see this is a HUGE drop in quality. The hype of space legs alone won't carry shoddy work very far.

If anything, it sends up red flags that space legs may very well be as poorly thought out as Fleet Carriers that can't carry your fleet as a core service. Nevermind the littany of other things that were wrong with FCs. Nevermind that the hype of Odyssey casts in sharp relief the lack of hype for FCs imminently arriving. Nevermind the Odyssey trailer looks like Mass Effect not Elite Dangerous.

Hmm. Maybe investors did react to the trailer. I still doubt it, but I wouldn't rule it out.

While the trailer doesn't show off much in the way of gameplay, the tech can count for a lot. Game developers (specifically thinking of Crytek and RSI here) have been able to make a fortune on tech demos that show nothing but shiny graphics.

If there is a weak spot to the trailer, it is that taking away VR support at the same time as offering atmospheric planets hints that FDev in some way could feels their tech is too weak for VR.

Underconfidence is not a good optic.
