PvP FDL build

I recently decided to get my butt back into open after not playing it for a long while. Since engineers, I've been intimidated to do so thus making the plunge into "the grind". Ended up going for the FDL due to it's speed and maneuverability (used to flying the DBS /Vulture for combat). I prefer the more nimble ships.

Anyhew so I pretty much just about finished pimpin my FDL to where I think I'm pretty comfortable with it. Basically just looking for some input as to whether or not this is a viable build for pvp. This is what I'm pretty sure I've finished.. I don't have my ships stats in front of me atm.

  • Thrusters - DD grade 5 with drag (Boost 550 fully kitted)
  • PP - OC grade 3 Stripped
  • PD - Engines capacity
  • Lightweight Alloys grade 5 with deep plating
  • 5A Prismatic with Thermal resistance grade 5
  • 4 Shield boosters 2 heavy duty G5 2 resistance G5
  • 0A Kill warrant scanner Fast scan (2 seconds)
  • chaff grade 1 ammo capacity (15)
  • x2 2D Beams long range grade 5
  • x2 PA's Efficient
  • 4A PA Efficient
  • long range Scanner (11.5Kish)

Again, I don't have this in front of me so bare that in mind. I also don't know the meta of PVP so any tips would be greatly appreciated from potential player groups to join for sparring or just basics. I have very little experience fighting players but I'm pretty competent in my piloting skills.

I'm not a FDL pilot, but these modules look fine to me. My best advice is to install EDMC (market connector), that gives you a dynamic link to coriolis stat sheet I'm sure you've seen other cmdrs share all the time. With one click, I'm able to produce this page for any of my ships, here's my clipper for example:
FNS Duncan Idaho

The real-time analysis of different loadouts you can try and compare is very helpful.

If you do any pvp, your plant will be the first thing go be shot out. You can run a 5-6 prismatic booster setup with some plasma no problem with a G5 Armored plant.

Yeah I've seen it many times and used it. Didn't realize you could one click and have your ships loadout applied. I thought you had to manually set it up. Do you have to be in game? I'll have to look into that, thanks.

You're the second person to tell me that and looking at it now makes total sense hah. Considering that's the sub system I always target anyways. Thanks for the input.

Its not in-game, but the market connector reads game data in real-time so I can alt-tab over to it and click on my ship to get the latest coriolis stats based on my build. EDSM has a similar function, which also gets its data from EDMC. I'm told Inara works this way as well but its ship module update feature is bugged for me. The key to all of it is EDMC.

Cheers! thanks mate. I just set it up. Super convenient. :p

So here's my build if anyone else would like to make some constructive criticism. (in process of getting new PP and changing out 5a prismatic for 4a and most likely trashing the beams.)

*Psst, click on that "new look" link to do your builds on.
http://www.edshipyard.com/new/

Coriolis has a short link tool.
You'll get prompted after you click on the link icon.

Ah hah! didn't realize you could set the prefered output to coriolis.

Mas bueno!

Thanks for switching over to Coriolis, much easier to read. The biggest weakness I see is the powerplant integrity at 116 and only 1 MRP. Your shields are awesome, but if your opponent has reverb torps or fletchers, you will get planted pretty quickly.

Without straying too much from your build,

Biweave:

Prismatic w/SCBs:

Shoring up the thermal resistances on the prismatic/reinforced costs a lot in the other categories.
Oooo I like. I ended up switching to Rails with long range and feedback cascade instead of the beams. I'm diggin it. You really need something against scb's for sure. A lot of the Elite npc's use them and they're a buggah so I can only imagine a player with them.

Definitely going to try both of those builds. I really like the beefyness of the prismatics though. Even in cz's I end up going until I get around 20 or below.. boost away, reboot and shields are back up to 50+%. But i like the idea of them coming back online faster.

The only thing is without the overcharged, I feel like I wouldn't be able to get away with the build would I? Three PA's, prismatic, DD and rails? I am running into some heat issues here and there if I'm not careful. I typically only use the rails if I have a good shot on the PP or they're 2K + away.

Edit: Messing around in coriolis now with those builds seems to run it just fine with armored plant using those builds bob gave me. :D

Another thing to consider is what happens if you do get planted. Module priority in the modules tab can help keep you alive in case that happens. Give all critical modules a '1'. The combined power usage of these modules should be under 50% so when your power plant is destroyed you still have these functions: life support, thrusters, FSD. Stay alive and jump away.

I make a big deal about this because the last time I was killed in PvP this is what happened to me.

Ftr, the long range thermal vent beams I put in will eliminate your heat problems, and they make for a much easier to fly build.
You will frost your windows in a few seconds, and they are required to double bank the SCBs without heatsinks.

Now I just need 750 merits again to buy some more prismatics. Made the mistake of only buying a 5A. Silly me. I have fixed long range beams just no thermal vent. I'll throw them on my dbs and make the jumps way shorter visiting Broo. They really should have it so any engineers that spec in that module, should be able to apply any effect considering it's not grade dependant.

Question for anyone in here. Do you have an FDL. How do you have your it set up. If not an FDL what do you use or prefer to use when you know you'll be going up against players.

Why the shielded FSD drive. Do people go for that as well? I really don't want to have to reduce the range on that if I don't have to. 11.99 jump range is horrible'!. *cries hysterically*

Yes, that way you can't escape.
I have two FSDs, one long range that I use to move the ship if I get stuck in a a detention center (I'm innocent, I swear!) and another shielded one for when I'm actually expecting a fight.

If you don't use the thermal vent beams you'll need an ammo capacity modded heat sink for those SCBs.

If you've never really flown the FDL before the gimballed LR TV beams will make the transition much easier.
You'll probably be missing a lot in the beginning, and the added TOT and reduced heat from them will help a lot.
PAs and rails have entirely different timing from each other.

For combat I use mostly my FGS(5x PA/APA, 2x seekers).
But I also fly a Courier, a Vulture, an FDL and a Chieftain to fight other players.
I use mostly PAs/APAs and rails/hammers, but I like to experiment with all sorts of loadouts.
I have four ships dedicated to weapon storage, lol...

In wing fights, the FSD or Thrusters (particularly on the Chieftain) are very common modules to subtarget. When either of those go to zero, the other guy cannot escape the instance and a kill is possible. In 1v1s other modules are better options, except perhaps the thrusters on the Chieftain ;)

I see. Very good. Guess I'll be engineering that for sure then. I'm itchin to get back into combat. Preferably guarding people at these CG events and what not. The fuel rats need people helpin them out as well. Like an escort of some sort after that last incident.

Off topic. Are there groups dedicated to say the DBS doing pure stealth build wings? That is something I've always though would be amazing. Low emission ships with multicannons/ low heat weapons and the lot.

I'm an Archon Fury fan. :p

Forgive me. Not too Elite lingo savy. TOT?

I'm used to fixed weaponry. I used to fly the vulture with rails and fixed pulse. Also DBS with enforcer cannons/rails/PA's. I've been practicing for a while now getting ready for the challenge of pvp. That and Beyond update is going to be nuts as far as pvp is concerned. :p Super excited for that.
