FDL, needing a little advice from seasoned Cmdr's

Hi Cmdr's, well i got my FDL and daang its great to fly...

i decided to go with 4 beams and a huge mc gimbal,

kitted her out with shield boosters, so far ive got 2 that are heavy duty (because i stole them off my vulture) and im in the process of getting everything engineered, beams are efficient with flow control... and the MC ive done as rapid fire, not sure what experimental to do on it though....

Im also in a pickle what to do for optional mods, ive got the HRP's that i also stole off my vulture but wasnt sure if i should drop them and get something else, some reccomendations would be great, i was swaying towards an scb but have no experience with them yet, i was also thinking of maybe a collector limpet for picking up materials....

as you can see im a little undecided on a few things so a bit of extra advice from some seasoned Cmdr's really would be grateful....

I dont know if im seasoned but im no doubt a little crispy.
I fly in open but do pve, for combat only i use two size one module reinforcements, for the weight savings, and a size 4 HRP and six lightly engineered shield boosters, a point defense and switch out the other utility slot according to circumstance.
If im traveling its a size 4a fuel scoop a planetary vehicle hanger and a size 1 mrp.
There is really nothing NPC wise that is going to present a much of a challenge to even a lightly engineered FDL except in wings of 3 and up.

First of all, remove rapid fire from MC and install G5 overcharged. Then install Corrosive effect on it.

Remove flow control from beams (useless effect) and install thermal vent (one of the most useful effects in the whole game).

For shield and boosters, go for thermal-resistant bi-weave with fast charge effect + three resistance-augmented shield boosters + two heavy duty boosters. Install Super Capacitors on all boosters.

For other utility slots, install chaff (preferably with increased ammo mod from Ram Tah), and swap one of heavy boosters to KWS if you're going to RES.

Here is the nominal build for my FDL.

I personally tend to favour focused/long range engineering combined with shield/hull penetration specials or specials that mix-up the damage types dealt. I only use efficient weapons in the rare circumstances where to do otherwise would be ill-advised.

However, on your rapid fire multi-cannon I would probably go with Corrosive Shells or Autoloader for the special given your build.

That FdL build is so bad that I have to believe you're joking.

Yea i quite liked the look of corrosive on the mc, ..

Thanks for the advice on the shields and boosters hazard, i didnt quite like the sound of thermal vent, if i was using gimbal beams i probably would use it..

Ill take a look at your build rlsg much appreciated for advice too buddy.

It is good enough for PvE (after some engineering - not included in the link) and it's primary role at the moment is material gathering hence the Wake scanner and SRV - your opinions of my builds are moot, and your critique is neither solicited nor appropriate to the matter at hand.

It's just that you're so outspoken about PvP, that a player such as yourself can just practice against NPC's and still be "more than capable" of taking on PvPers. To the point where you referred to Truesilver as being a trash player who didn't know what he was talking about. And then I see this build and it's like a light bulb going off. The only thing you forgot was the docking computer.

Agreed... its totally rude to speak to someone like that....

It used to make me chuckle in other games when players used to tell me my builds were no good and then proceed to take a beating on said bad build..., if that build works for what you want to do then thats all that matters... i dont really appreciate you joining into my post jason just to tell someone they have a bad build and try to make a mockery of them.... criticism can be good when its constructive.. try and adjust the way you speak to people or just dont speak...

Off-topic and irrelevant to the matter at hand - IF we were talking about a PvP build I might make some significant adjustments (if I were to use the FDL at all for PvP - which is doubtful) but the OP was not clear as to their intent. The ED universe does not revolve around PvP you know.

Anyone can post a fine tuned and maxed FDL build link (coriolis or edshipyard) that includes all modules (e.g with reactive surface plus thermal resistance but with what exp-mod on top?)
if possible one for PVE and one for PVP

And the fact your coming into this thread bringing up things not related to my post is just insulting and pathetic imo... please could you leave.

It was from a pve perspective... sorry i should have said in my post... more res and bounty hunting

At some point it will be cz and pvp

Well, my friend, this is a public forum so you're just going to have to put up with it I'm afraid. And to the point of outfitting your FdL: why bother even asking for advice in the first place if you're just going to settle for "Throw a bunch of random, ineffective stuff in that doesn't really go together or yield an effective outcome?" I mean, you could have randomly put things into your new ship without asking if that was going to be good enough.

Stick a dirty drive in it, the FDL needs to move.

I use two thermal vent beams (fire constantly never over heat) with a huge corrosive MC as standard armament, and the other two weapon slots I use for fun weapons I have a selection of twinned rails/PA's/missiles/cannon one for every mood.

I asked because i wanted a bit of advice to go along with what im feeling i want to do and then maybe mix things up...

My issue was you came in with what can only be considered as a slight attack on what someone else said, which you then proceeded to bring things up not to do with the post,

In my eyes it wasnt constructive in any way and has completely ruined my post, all you needed to do was stick with the advice you gave which was fantastic and appreciated, but you could have just left that there in all honesty..

Just a crazy idea coming.
I do PVE and I have 2 FdLs. I bought the 2nd one to be a stealth ship.
Below 20% heat in normal space, you don't show up on radar. (Unless they've changed it)
The FdL has very good heat management.

Yea ive got g3 dirty drags in at the moment...

Ive not been playing long so i was worried about the thermal vents and not hitting my target...

With my beam setup at the moment ive not had any overheating problems even taking on 3 wing deadly/elites

To be fair you can put almost any loadout on an FDL and you'll do ok in it. It's fast and it's pretty maneoverable, so you don't need to set it up for long range fighting. If you like that sort of thing, then go for it, but it's a good ship for duking it out close up. Big shields and nice hardpoint convergence means you can get into your enemies face :)

I'd go with biohazard15's build out of all those so far. r1sg's is certainly unusual but you can make most things work in PvE :) Even if you're running fixed beams, thermal vent is worth a look. Against big ships it's a really lovely mod.

<edit> ok, if you're not overheating, stick with what you've got. Don't fix what isn't broked! </edit>

If you want to have real fun with the FdL, forget the multi purpose stuff. All that's doing is watering down the ship's potential. Outfit that beast with 5x Efficient Phasing PA's, run either a light or a heavy weight build depending on your skill level, and go make stuff melt. No srv hanger, no extra fuel tank, no ksw or wake scanner--only stuff that pertains to dealing death. That's when the FdL truly begins to shine.

Go forth and slaughter the NPC's my friend.
