FDL or Python for RES

I want to upgrade from a vulture to an FDL or Python. I mainly just want to bounty hunt in a RES to earn credits. No PvP at this time. Strong shields and quick take down power is what I would like. Suggestions please. Thanks

I haven't used the FDL yet, but I did own a Python, and the Python flew like a brick, so I would definitely go for the FDL

Definetly FDL for this kind of job! Specially if you are upgrading from a Vulture. Python can be good, but you will love that extra manoeuvrability of FDL inside those asteroid belts!

Python has better usable fire power. Three size 3 and two size 2. Both are going to have high re buy. Both not as manoeuvrable as vulture so mind asteroids. Love my python vulture feels like it has pea shooters after using a python. Flying bigger ship takes a bit to get used to. Dont try to fly it like a vulture.

I'd go with either FDL or Python, or even an imperial Clipper at a conflict zone, but in a RES I'd stick with a Vulture.

The re-buy cost really hurts when you smack into a rock...

yeah, yeah - don't tell me about your great pilot skills - eventually it bites everyone.

I just went from a Fdl to a python and i must say that as much as i like the Fdl, I'm really in love for the python. The firepower is just insane, and the manoeuvrability is for me equal to a fdl. You just loose on the speed size, but you gain on available power. Also with a python you can do what ever you want, when the Fdl is limited to fight and nothing else

I own both, upgraded them to the A rated modules and i like them both actually. The FDL has that extra maneuverability and lovely engine sounds, but the python hits a lot harder and has a sexy cockpit ^.^

In the end i use the python more, mostly because the enemy ships just melt away quite a bit faster, but that's personal taste really.

Whatever you choose, you won't choose wrong, only the python will cost you a lot more to buy and upgrade properly, that's a certainty.

FdL

It gets you to your next target quicker - less bounties lost due to the rozzers stealing your (would be) kills :)

Used both, and would use Python over FDL in RES if would had to decide over two of them.... But if would have them both maxed, would use both(why not?) depends on my mood. FDL feels like Viper big bro, while Python its more like Anaconda younger bro.

Of course it depends on taste... FDL is much more cheaper to outfit it to its max than Python...

It's is all to easy to plough a FDL into an asteriod, sometimes the ships is fast for it's own good, I did it several times. It's big shields are no help at 270m/s. If you do pay attention and don't fly into a rock you it doe's cover the ground between targets quickly, and the huge hardpoint is good for taking the big ship bounties out quickly.

I personally didn't have any issues in a Python though, you may crack the hull but it tends to be to slow to be destroyed in the impact, and that was with only A5 Shields, and pre boosters.

If you can afford the only one ship and you're not PvPing, I'd personally take a the Python as it's a much more versatile ship.

Thanks everyone. It sounds like the Python is the better choice, but it may come down to cost. How much cash do I need to buy and outfit the Python for RES with room to grow, compared to how much for the FDL. If the cost is too much more I may get the FDL first than upgrade to the Python after getting some more credits.

I have both.
For pure pve RES hunting go the Python. Better firepower and the power plant/distributor to run all the modules/weapons config you want. Anaconda full shields last about 5 secs and the PP about the same afterwards.

Speed isn't that much of a factor once you find the sweet spawn spot, if the asteroids don't already limit your top speed anyway.

For PvP, FDL all the way.

Well, to give you an idea, if i were to to sell my ships right now(and i'd loose 10% on the modules), i'd get:

- 62M for the FDL
- 151M for the Python

So it's significantly more expensive to outfit the Python. Still, if you have the money, the Python would be my overall first choice.

I would take a Vulture instead.

But between Python and FdL, assuming that both are nicely equipped, I would go Python: better firepower; more resilient (shields about 15% weaker, but enough juice and slots to fit plenty of cells); agile enough; and the speed difference won't be noticed, since most NPCs won't be running away from you.

I am biased though, since I both love the Python and loathe the FdL.

Both are good ships and will do the job, It boils down to personal preference.

Yup. Like when you have 4m cr in bounties, as part of a community goal that ends in one hour, and the devs decided to do a serve rupdatein 30 minutes. and you are on the dark side of the RES.

And you think you'd cleared the asteroids, so plot your jump. And then you switch back to the cockpit view - just in time to see the asteroid that you have flown straight into in your headlights.

I spent 2 hrs in the dark sid eof the res without touching an asteroid, yet still... The buggers bite!

As for bounty hunting, I've never flown anything that kills things as quickly as Python. FdL included.

Thia FdL is what I'm currently flying for RES farming and assassination missions - 75M CR.
A fully kitted-out Python will cost slightly more than twice that.

Python is the better combat ship vs NPCs.
