FDL Question

Guys and Gals,

Just about to add the FDL to try her out as a combat ship. I know all about the power issues and also understand 1.5 will (May) bring a change to this (Am i correct??)?

So my question is: If i buy an FDL now at old spec and 1.5 proper brings the change, will i get this update auotmatically or will i have to sell old FDL and re-buy new FDL?

Many thanks Cmdrs

You will get the class 6 slot for powerplant for free when 1.5 hit live servers, but you need to buy the class 6 powerplant.

Mounting that 6A is going to cost you another ~.5 LY of jump range.

More if it is a 6B, probably around .75.

Hmm...So I guess a heat sink will be in order, just in case. I rarely have heat problems fuel scooping, but I do it at a very low rate. It exposes me to more interdictions and that can be a problem if I'm in an unexplored system. So far, my FSD will only high wake if the system isn't explored. Maybe a scanner would be needed, but there goes another slot.

There'll be an answer once we get the final build.

FDL supposedly has better heat characteristics with the 1.5 changes too FYI.

With more huge and large weapon variants coming the FDL will need the extra power or will probably have no way to use them successfully.

Flying a FDL with a 5A in the Beta (same build as my main game FDL) and getting heat levels of 23 - 24% in SC that 6 - 8% lower than the current release, still got the range of a beached walrus but it's still huge fun to fly! :)

I don't know the exact relationship, but heat characteristics are closely tield to your powerplant so a lot of this has to do with the larger reactor, presumably.

From testing prior to 1.5 the powerplant size had no effect on heating, only the rating mattered. Each ship had a defined heat build up and loss rate, not sure if that's changed with 1.5 but I think it's still ship dependant. Thats why Explorers use a 2A powerplant on most builds without issues.
