FdL vs Python

I'm thinking about moving on to a bigger ship (up from a Cobra).

For my own reasons, I'm looking at the Python or the FdL. I played with the FdL in the recent beta, and it has its pros and cons. I didn't get around to test-driving the Python though.

I'd be really interested in opinion and comment from those who've used both.

Downgraded from a Conda to a Python last week, have fallen in love with the ship. Maxed out a FDL in beta, it's great but the Python just feels better.

Ive been flying the Python on and off since Gamma and spent a week in the FDL

The FDLs only real advantage is its speed.

The Python is a complete brute now. The big powerplant, 3 large hardpoints + 2 medium hardpoints all with fixed convergence and tons of internals allows for some serious firepower, shields and hull strength.

If you have money to throw around the FDL is a very nice toy but the Python is where the sensible moneys at.

The new ships are disappointing. As are the redonkulous prices (yes I know they plan to drop them, but I'm not confident they'll drop them to realistic levels). Python > Anaconda is still where it's at in terms of ship progression. And Viper/Cobra is still where it's at in terms of BH and piracy, in terms of cost-efficiency and bang for your buck.

Python is a great ship. Love the cockpit and also how it sounds. We just need more paint skins for it!

You just answer on my millennium question dilemma.
What should i buy: Python or Vulture.
Python is answer.

They plan to drop them? Can you point me to where it was said? Was it in that jungle-sized 'official new ship cost' topic?

Well, if the question is which one would come out on top in a PvP 1v1, the answer is simple:

The one not piloted by me ;)

If the FdL sticks around to fight, and skill levels are similar, Python will win. However, the faster un-lockable FdL can break off any time it wants.

See all the "galnet tax" threads on page 1/2 now? It was hinted at in game, and confirmed (sorta) by a FD dev tweet.

I saw another post of yours about this and it planted the seed of thought in my mind. So after seeing the silly prices of the new ships I followed your lead and sold my conda, bought a T9 to keep my trading going and a Python for combat. Not had much time to try it yet but plan on finding a RES later to test it out a bit.

You wouldn't BH in a Python? I'm finding that I have to leave the battlefield to restore shields quite often in CZs, even with a fully A-rated Cobra. Sure, it's cheap to repair, whereas the beta FdL was very expensive, sometimes more than the gain in bounties, and admittedly I've heard that applies to the Python as well.

Repairs are much cheaper now. I rammed "something" and came out with 7% hull - I was pleasantly surprised to get a 45k-ish bill. 2% (as in my hull was at 98%) was 80k a few days ago...

I know right?! My buddy and i got into a scuffle with 3 pirate anacondas, he had to run away (being in a light fitted cobra) and do fast fly by on the last two while i tanked them. I dropped down to about 86% after killing the last two and was expecting to owe money after turning in all my bounties, going into the negative after all was said and done. To my surprise, i owed more in fuel than i did in repairs (only slightly mind you).
And from what i hear now, those fuel costs are all flat rates now across all ships. So in that 20min of bounty hunting we each made a bit over 200k after costs. Not bad if i do say so myself.
