FD's Official Combat Tutorials - have you used them?

I did them on day one of getting the game. I was pleased as I could at least fly the ship... However, high/low waking, silent running, combat positioning... these are all things I had to learn from reading the forum and asking questions.

I don't consider myself as good at combat but not a total target either.

Just wondering, particularly if you find combat challenging, have you worked through the basic tutorials?

I completed all the tutorials before I started playing, back in December 2015. IMO, they really should add more - 1 dealing with escaping interdiction, 1 for how to do interdiction, 1 for how to use the SRV Wave Scanner (I took to it instantly, but others find it frustrating), etc.

When I started playing, I was also watching lots of youtube videos by Obsidianant, Troa Barton, etc. covering the aspects of the game the tutorials didn't. I also read this forum and others. If FDev doesn't want to make new tutorials, they should at least start highlighting some of this helpful content made by players.

All that said, I'm probably not the target audience of your post, because I'm not complaining about the new AI (well, I am about some minor points).

I worked through the tutorials and they were completely useless. They don't teach you to install gimballed weapons which is the first thing you should do as soon as you can afford them. Instead they have you trying to hit moving things with railguns until you get frustrated and decide that combat sucks and you'll avoid it as much as possible.

Have you noticed that all the 'fixed' weapons in CQC are actually gimballed? Just with a smaller range of motion. I wish the fixed weapons in the actual game worked the same way.

I did some of them, not all. Isn't there that one almost impossible tutorial where you need to kill an anaconda in sidewinder? How many new player beat that or even veteran??

Why does everyone think the training missions are tutorials? If they were tutorials they would be called tutorials. Read the manual for a tutorial.

When I played the recently they were a LOT easier than when I played them in gamma (and I don't think it was because I got better), they added a few more as well (well one has you flying a vulture so I assume its new)

I just watched the trailer of the combat, then figured that is how it was going to be in the game. Then found out otherwise. Who can you trust?

Just to clarify as well: I'm not making any assumptions - I genuinely wanted to find out if people had done them and found them of any use, particularly after the new patch. I'm working on putting together a post that will combine current combat information on forums and youtube and will add to that regularly.

Naa i jumped into game, rammed a station and exploded.

(Wanted to know what happened when u die)

After that i found that this was a game for me.

It took me one day to realize that the tutorials aren't the main game :D
I played all tutorials and had a lot of fun doing so. The docking tutorial is nice for doing stupid things in a Sidewinder close to a station btw.

(And two days to realize that there are two tutorials - one as an extra launcher option and one inside the main game).

Edit: had a hat a had - t and d are the same, really.

I did a lot of research before dumping such a sum on a game (Beta period)

I watched many twitch streams and youtube videos

Apparently I'd overdone it, my first attempt at docking, while not perfect, was without damage or turning around or any of the things we usually hear/see about folks first time. Probably also helps that I'd been playing MS Flight Simulator since I was 11/12 years old.

I did try my hand at the combat tutorials...took a lot of tries but I got through them all. I just didn't think it appropriate to engage other players in PvP without first doing them the service of having decent chops at flying a spaceship.
