FD's official opinion on multiple accounts

I love the choice available in this game, I really do, and I would like to experience it all. unfortunately, without multiple character slots, I cannot do this. I'm not going to wreck my rep by pirating etc.

This is completely aside from the roleplayer in me, who feels aggrieved that I cannot play a character that is a PURE pirate, and one that is a BH/trader faction neutral guy.
Another that is an empire patriot.
Another that is federation through and through.
And so on.

Being able to be a high rank in two opposing armies is just a little daft imo, I would much prefer to rank up separately on two separate characters.

But seeing as that is not supported (despite it being in almost every other game ever, but nevermind...), I'm tempted to buy a second copy of the game to indulge my inner roleplayer.

Is this allowed by FD? Is it possible on one PC?

Please note that I honestly don't care for anyone's opinion on whether I SHOULD have a second account. I'm doing it for RP reasons, if you want to whine, please go elsewhere.

I'm sure this is fine. After all, you're buying a second copy of the game, so it's irrelevant which PC you use it on. My understanding is that EACH account will have its own install folder though, so when you login with your new account you'll have to download/install the whole game, but that may be changed now.

I think a 2nd save slot, totally separate from the main one, would be a great addition for ED. I've been fiddling with Ironman (that's TOUGH!) since yesterday, but it's amazing how much stuff is part of your main account, e.g. faction alliances etc. For Ironman I'd like a clean, clean account, but I'm not wiping my save with my nice Vulture in it!

lol, why would FD want to discourage you from buying the game a second time? ;)

Many people have done this to get an additional account. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

There is absolutely no reason why you can't,
To answer one question, multiple accounts on one PC, sure. Many households share a high powered PC for gaming purposes,
You pay for the privilege of a second account, you are not breaking any rules or TOS.

A friendly suggestion. This line in the OP may steer to the exact opposite result than what you are looking for, its how Internet discussions work.

Regarding your question, we have not heard anything from FDEV regarding this, so it does have merit to ask. I would assume there is not going to be any problem, provided you are not doing an exploit using your two accounts to gain an advantage.

More CMDR slots though may be the definite answer to your problem. The game was originally planned with this functionality (as well as more play modes like Ironman for example), but for some reason it is not implemented yet. Hope it does in the future.

If I pay, it means both those accounts can login at the same time and play against each other. There are many who want multiple saves that can only log in one at a time. My kids would love to play but there's no way they will be using my save. And if we had multiple high-end machines I'd consider just buying another license but it's not worth it for little people who have more fun watching Stampy all day.

just let them play training or single player combat training module

Bascially you are asking if you are allowed to pay them money AGAIN to get a second copy of a product you already own. I see absolutely no reason why they would be against it.

You should be able to get around that duplicate download with a hard link in Windows. mklink or something.

I would imagine as a selling point for future expansions players will be given an extra character slot.
So when planetary landings are available to purchase, you'll get the added perk of a second slot.
Just my thoughts but it's what I would do to drive sales.
