Hi folks,
en route to Eta Carinae I came across a sector named "FE 1" along with the usual suffixes like YZ-D b13-1. I am somewhat confused about this "FE 1" thing though. I know COL xxx denominations refer to the Collinder Catalogue but I didn't find any reference about a star catalogue using an FE abbreviation. On the other hand, it doesn't really look procedural like the usual PLAA EURK or PHRYAEA. Do I miss something here that would explain the FE 1 namesgiving?
A wild and self-made speculation is that FE 1 refers to an abundancy in iron in the interstellar material in this particular portion of space, possibly the result of a supernova. To my knowledge, iron is the result of the final silicon burning stage of stellar fusion in massive stars before they go 'boom!'.
Any ideas on that?
