Elite / Frontier FE2 Crew woes

I have been playing FE2 for about 2-3 days now and finally got the cash and brought myself a Transporter with enough credits to fully kit her out and continue trading.

My problem is finding crew. There was only one chap on the Bulletin Board who I hired. I though the board updated every 24 hours? It's been two weeks now game time and no one else is showing up. :S

I miss my Cobra Mk III with the millatry drive installed you have enough room for a 5mw pulse, 5 shields, navel ecm, radar mapper, atmospheric shields and still trade comfortable.:D

The morale of the story is don't just go by the shipyard when you want to upgrade - check to see there's enough people wanting to sign on as crew BEFORE you get a bigger ship - otherwise you may be there some time...

Panther Clipper ready to go and needing one more crewmember before I can launch.....so many times....

The "right way" is to upgrade the ships, until you reach the needed amount of crew.

You buy a ship that needs 3 crew first. Then you fly to another system, and trade that ship for a 5 crew ship and get the crew from the BBS. Then you fly to another system and get a 7 crew ship etc.

You repeat that until you reach the needed crew amount for your desired ship.

I do have to agree that's the best policy - but there is the (rare) occasion where the ship's available to buy and sheer good fortune has most of the Bulletin board with people wanting to hire out as crew.

I've been waiting now 4 months for just a Tiger Transport crew and I am sitting waiting in Sol !! This is not fun anymore. :(

This!

It makes no sense upgrading too fast, since it will take you ages to find the crew to fly it.

Also, I always check the boards first to see if there's enough crew available before I purchase a bigger ship.

i do the same; i usually start a game by trading and when i can i buy the next bigger ship i can find & afford i only have a few persons to hire each time.
try to never have to hire more than 3 persons at a time and as said, check the board before buying any ship and do so if you can hire most or all of them.
if there's noone to hire you may have to wait a long time but you will eventually find someone. never go straight to the panther, when i buy a panther, usually that's because i'm already flying a puma clipper.
