Feature or Glitch? Resetting of a Bounty Mission

So I ran a mission, killing 5 pirates in a system (Panoi).
I had 4 down (one of which was an anaconda which makes me kinda proud allthough it didn't act that smart and i had 3 other System Authority Vipers with me. Still though fight in my little Viper) when I met an ASP at an USS.
The Asp send me a few messages about what I was doing was wrong and that I should meet her at another station.
This reverted the progression on the mission in my transaction tab to say nothing about how many pirates already met their fate but added the possibility to go to the station the ASP mentioned.
"Hey, maybe it just isn't showing anything" I thought, looked for the fifth pirate, killed him and found that the transaction counted up to 1 pirate killed.

So yeah...
Did I encounter a bug? Is there a reason behind the resetting? Did it not reset at all but just showed the wrong number?

It's a bug. Those missions have never worked properly.

Hunt the pirates at Nav beacons instead. Or if you go to a USS, do it in an Anarchy system, and shoot the ship before it can alter the mission. No bounty, and it won't offer the alternate end.

It's a lot easier at the beacon though. :D

Thx^^

I will definetly try the beacons. Didn't want to shoot down the ASP as it was "Clean". Which struck me as rather odd

All you have to do is hit it fast before it can offer the mission, if you're in anything other than an Anarchy system. Then turn, boost the heck out of there and hit SC. You'll take the small ~400 credit bounty, but just jump over to an outpost and pay it off if you do. Beats losing your progress.

Beacons are far easier to deal with for the simple hunt pirate/smuggler missions. Jump in, check the ships in the area, and take out the 'wanted' ones. Not all of them will count, but you can either hang around and wait for new ships to drop in, or SC out, turn around, and drop back in again to reset the instance and start all over again. When you're looking around, if you don't see any wanted ships right away, look out in the distance for the telltale laser flashes of other ships fighting. Usually you can boost out there fast enough to find the one that's wanted and scan it, then take it out while it's fighting other ships. Sometimes you even get to nuke an Anaconda to help boost your kill rating. :D
