Feature request: Current ship orientation marker in the Galaxy Map

If you're like me, and I know I am, you have a hard time matching stars that you see out of your cockpit to the galaxy map.

Sometimes you'll see something cool in the background stars while flying around and want to fly towards it to find out what it is. You know it's light years away, but you can't see anything on the galaxy map that matches.

If there was a way to project the way your ship is pointing on to the galaxy map (like in the yawnfest Star Trek: Generations) it would help a great deal.

Just an idea.

Just an idea.

Nice idea too.

You can label stars in jump range. Target in left panel and your FSD (target) will point you at it?

If you go through in range targets, and find one in the same general direction as your point of interest, you have a general heading? You might be able to home in, by going into galaxy map, moving your target marker further in that direction ..

[ you won't be able to jump but (don't know) can you see a target (not a route) up to 1000Ly in the night sky? ]

May be workable? Might have to be because a similar feature in the game (though desirable) might be a ways off.

It came about purely because I spotted an almost straight line of bright blue stars all clustered together and wanted to just jump in that direction to find them. There's no easy way to do it.

None of the systems in the NAV list were aligned with the stars, so I couldn't triangulate. I couldn't see the stars in the galaxy map; it's too dissimilar from what you see through the canopy.

I've since found them and bookmarked one of the stars, but they're much farther away than I had expected.

P.S. Sorry about posting in the wrong place. I ran a search in the bug report section for feature requests and most of the replies said to post in "Dangerous Discussions". My bad.

I pointed you to the right forum and didn't even answer your topic... My bad.

But yeah, I agree, it's a small quality of life improvement, but it's very useful !

I agree. I have often seen formations/nebulae in the distance and thought I want to go there but can't find them in the gal map.
