Hardware & Technical [feature request] new toggle/hold binding option

I just bought a new HOTAS and I've been setting up my bindings to find the most efficient and ergonomic arrangement possible. I actually enjoy this process and consider it part of the game. I did however come across an absent feature that I would like to suggest to the developers at Frontier.

For certain functions like Flight Assist, Cargo Scoop, Lights, etc that can be toggled on or off... the game gives us the options to either toggle (ie: click once to open cargo scoop, click again to close) or hold (ie: cargo scoop stays open while button is depressed). However, I want the functionality of both.

I propose an additional third option (could be called toggle/hold) that will toggle the function when you click the button (when held shorter than a threshold duration, like 1/8th of a second) and will give us hold functionality when you hold the button (when held longer than the threshold duration). This hold functionality would work in either states by simply inverting whatever state you are currently toggled to. This would be very useful in so many different ways. Here are some examples:
  • if you are flying with Flight Assist off, but occasionally want to enable it briefly just to stop your ship from spinning/drifting
  • if you are flying with Flight Assist on, but want to temporarily disable it to turn quicker to get a bead on your enemy in a dogfight
  • if you want to use your cargo scoop as an air-brake (okay, there's no air in space but you know what I mean) you can just hold it down for a second... but you also want the ability to open your cargo scoop indefinitely while picking up items
  • if you want to flash your lights at someone to get their attention
I looked into the programming options on my Saitek X-56 Rhino HOTAS's software to see if there was a way I could implement this functionality, and as robust as the programming options are, I couldn't figure it out. If anyone has figured out a way to do this, please share.

Frontier developers: I hope you might consider adding this optional functionality to the game.
