Feature request: NPC crew members for all ships with two or more seats.

Why is NPC crew limited to ships with hanger bays?

I was excited to hire crew members and have NPC co-pilots in my Python, Asp Explorer and Cobra MKIII because they'd be useful covering me from the ship when I'm in an SRV, deploying countermeasures when in combat and — the most important thing — filling the empty seat(s) on the bridge.

Even if all they did were fill said empty seats, I'd be OK with it. :)
 
Yep, this is something a lot of people have wished for :)
Sadly frontier has other ideas

They have? Last thing I remember they said you could hire additional crew to buff the stats of your ship or something. Pray tell this idea didn't get replaced by Engineers.

I would like to buy my crew member a second python and have my private wing.. We would be nightmare for the galaxy :)

Love the python but with Crew limited to be usable with a fighter hanger only I seriously have to think about takeing my parked anaconda back into Service.
Yes that with the co-pilot seat would have been nice but it requires a ton work that it doesnt ends creepy. You have to give the co-pilot life and life is rare in ED.

Pretty sure it's still in the works for the next major update, the one which includes the character creator and multi-crew functions.
 
NPC crew to fill a variety of ship duties would be a great idea to add to 2.3 as part of multicrew... until you realize you'd lose all time invested in them if your ship ever gets destroyed.

Pretty sure that comment was to do with having multiple PLAYERS manning a single ship. So that a ship with 3 players in would have performance gains somewhat equivalent to having the same as 3 ships.... otherwise except for 'cool points' there would be absolutely no reason what so ever for having multiple players in a single ship versus just bringing more ships flown by those same players.

I also seem to remember Frontier being pretty firm that NPCs would not be able to fill the same role as players for multi-crew ships. And that their plans are firmly set on it being a player crew only deal.

And yes multi-(player) crew ships is one of the main feature points of 2.3 I believe, alongside the character avatar creator.

If NPC crew die, then hire then again. That would keep the feature on par with the NPC pilots in 2.2.
 
Given FD's previously stated stance on hiring NPC crew, I think it came as a shock to everyone that SLFs came with an NPC crewman.

Since the NPC pilot design feature of 2.2 was announced, I don't recall seeing any official declaration that NPC crew for non-piloting tasks was still off the table. They at least already now have the "crew lounge", character backstory creation and crew hiring/firing mechanisms in place, so implementing additional crewmember categories should be easy-peasy, if they want to do it. So I suppose we can still wait, in the hope that the overwhelming majority of forum posters seem to want an option for hiring NPC crew, to "fill the empty chair", may have changed their minds.
 
I am hopeful that we will see additional NPC crew with the 2.3 release.
Scientist, Medic, Engineer (no, not those crazy planetside guys), etc.
A lot of additional gameplay potential here. The 2.2 crew features are a good sign that they will continue in that direction. Or at least I hope they do.

Ah so someone wants the FEII/FFE situation of being stuck at a station for days, weeks and months trying to find that elusive 13th crew member so that you take off.
 
My guess/hope is that it will be a 2.3 thing... with it being about multicrew

I would love that to be honest.
Even if it did nothing to gameplay it would add ''heart and soul'' to the ship.

But I could see some gameplay being used with it , a bit basic but it could work.

-PiP management by an NPC for those who hate or want help with it (when you fire they set all pips to weapons , when you are being fired upon all pips to sys etc)
-Maybe it could serve as an autopilot of sorts (pilot takes over for you)
-Fly your ship when you are in the SRV so that you get air support (that could be very usefull)
-Provide basic voice feedback (warning us on basic events , maybe keeping us up to date of whats on the radar ''warzone in this system CMDR'' ''It seems this system is in a state of boom'' and so on)
