I have a 64-bit laptop with 4GB RAM and a standalone ATI card, so I should be ok, but sometimes upgrading a PC isn't as easy as just slapping more RAM in. Processor, HD speed, GFX card power and all that jazz contribute to the performance of a PC. Nine times out of ten when I've upgraded my boxes in the past or when I've done it for friends and family, the processor and HDD create a bottleneck even with upgraded RAM.If a 64 bit game why buy a new PC? Just upgrade to windows 7 (or 8) 64 bit and use the existing PC. Memory is cheap and odds are will run with the memory in the box already just won't be able to max it.
Even if a 32 bit OS is used you will want 4 gig of ram as the game will likely use a minimum of 2 gig and loading the OS and drivers and much less then 4 gig of ram will handicap it. So use a 64 bit OS and keep the memory you have it will run the game at 4 gig if you have it or 3, but the game can grow easier with more breathing room. Windows 7 or 8 will cost approx. $100 US, with year to go, roughly save $8 a month and you will have it.

And it all costs money. Which many of us may not have. A good portion of this community may have other concerns, such as families, mortgages, being a student and so on, and disposable cash may not be easy to come by.
In an ideal world FD are developing Elite to be compatible with current hardware, even if it means turning off some of the pretty features.
