This week we’ve got some questions for the team behind the Distant Worlds 2 Squadron:
Welcome guys, and congratulations on the incredible launch of the Distant Worlds 2 expedition!
First question, why did you decide to start the Distant Worlds expeditions, and how long ago?
Three years ago we decided to start the DW expeditions to bring together the exploration community, and create large-scale expeditions to cross the galaxy.
During Distant Worlds 3302, we took over 1,300 commanders across the galaxy, with 600 of those Commanders making it all the way to Beagle Point! We aim to beat that with Distant Worlds 3305 by a significant margin, and in the process we’ll help build a Science Station in the galactic core!
How many Commanders are taking part in the DW2 expedition?
Over 14,500 as of 16 January 2019!
Where are the Commanders who’re taking part based, and in which time zone are you most active?
The Commanders taking part are based all over the world and in all time zones. In-game, the traditional launch event is held in the Pallaeni system, with the end location being Beagle Point.
With Commanders taking part from all over the world, what are the main languages spoken?
The majority of Commanders speak either English, French, German or Spanish.
And what can people expect? What kind of activities will they take part in?
Reaching the far-side of the galaxy is the prime objective here, with exploration and discovery being the main gameplay aspect of the expedition.
Does your DW2 have a motto?
"Tracing one warm line through a land so wild and savage..." - Stan Rogers (Northwest Passage)
If you could give one piece of advice to every Commander, what would it be?
Take friends with you when exploring, the galaxy can be a lonely place, especially when so far from home.
Are there any other Squadrons/Player Groups you want to give a shout out to?
