Welcome to the eighth Featured Commanders thread of 2019! This week, we’re talking to the fantastic, friendly and funny streamer, Lucanaii!
Introduce yourself, Commander!
Hello, I'm Queen Lucanaii of the Kingdom of Luca, but you can call me Luca!
Nice to meet you Luca! How did you first find out about Elite Dangerous, and why did you start streaming it?
I've known about Elite Dangerous for years, I watched streams on Twitch and I’ve owned the game since 2015! It just felt a bit too overwhelming to actually start playing.
At first, I felt like (to start playing) I needed to have a HOTAS (which I actually got before I attempted to play the game), set up voice commands and a massive number of different keybinds... it felt like too much.
However, I’ve wanted to play the game for a long time, I loved the idea of exploration and when I heard that the new exploration update was coming, it felt like a great time to start. At the same time my health had gotten worse and I was looking for a game that would be easier to control with mostly keyboard and mouse controls. Imagine my surprise when I was able to set keybinds in a way that worked for me, and I even learnt that a lot of players prefer keyboard and mouse over HOTAS! I didn't feel held back from fully enjoying the game. It was a match made in heaven, or should I say space.
I started playing on 12th December, right after the exploration and mining update and I've been hooked since! Played for over 100 hours in my first month.
That’s amazing, we’re so glad that you were able to find a control scheme that works well for you! But, what got you hooked on the game?
In the end? Space. I'm a huge space nerd, and I even attempted to study astrophysics at university, which didn't work out because of my health issues. There's just something special about taking your own ship and flying out into the black. Colourful gas giants with huge rings, neutron stars with their swirly tails. It's just so beautiful it leaves me speechless.
What’s your favourite piece of content you’ve created around Elite Dangerous?
My favourite piece to look back at is definitely the highlight reel of my first day. For example, smashing my sidewinder into the planet I tried to take off from. Less than a month later I got Trader Elite thanks to deep core mining. What a difference.
Wow, that’s a massive improvement, and one of the fastest Elite ranks we’ve heard about it! What piece of advice would you give to other Commanders?
The mailslot is bigger than it seems, but if flying through it is not exciting enough, try it with a Beluga!
Elite Dangerous can be a rather solitary game, especially if you play solo, so my main piece of advice would be to connect with others who play it. It's great to have friends who will be excited that you finally reached combat Elite, that you found a previously undiscovered system with 5 Earth-like worlds or just to help you get those guardian blueprints.
Great advice! Are there any other content creators you’d like to give a shout out to?
First of all its Psyche. She's the one I've been watching over the years (and because of whom I always hear Friendship Drive Charging) and then HelloitsKolo.
But honestly, its not just the content creators who deserve a shout out. It’s the Elite community, all the commanders in the chats of various streamers. They were never mean if I asked a completely noob question because I hadn’t played the game. They were embracing and welcoming and they were a big reason why I gave streaming Elite Dangerous a shot.
We love to hear that, we feel very lucky that the Elite Dangerous community is so accepting and kind!
Do you have any cool projects on the horizon you’d like to tell us about?
Right now I'm off with the Distant World 2 expedition. I'm taking a beautiful Beluga full of viewers with me on the cruise trip of a lifetime! I'm hoping to survive until Beagle Point and maybe beyond but who knows what we'll encounter along the way!
And last but not least, where can people find you online?
Search for Lucanaii and you will find me! I stream on Twitch every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 9am – 4pm UTC, but I also upload the streams to my YouTube channel! You can also find me on Instagram,Twitter,Facebook and the Discord server “Kingdom of Luca” as well!
It’s been lovely speaking to you Luca, we can’t wait to see where your adventures will take you in the future!
