Hello Commanders, and welcome to the seventeenth Featured Commanders thread of 2019! This week, we're speaking to the player group, White Scar Contingency!
Hello WSC! It's so lovely to speak to a LGBT+ positive group during Pride Month! So tell us, how long has your group existed?
10 months! We're coming up on a year now.
Why did you decide to get together and start a player group?
Me and the other leaders of the White Scar Contingency founded the group so that we would have a place to pursue any endeavor and support each other regardless of our goals. Naturally, since each one of our founding members are part of the LGBT+ community, we made it a priority in our foundation to ensure that we would stand out as a group where members would feel equal, safe, and heard among others they could relate to.
That's wonderful to hear. So, how many Commanders are the White Scar Contingency?
At the moment, we have approximately 90 members. Roughly 25% of them are active at any given time, but we're always recruiting! Our members are based all over the world, extending to Australia and the Philippines, however most of our Commanders operate in US Eastern Standard time and UTC.
If someone were to join your group, would could they expect? What kind of activities do you take part in?
The White Scar Contingency takes part in tons of various activities, supporting each other in our personal endeavors and, as a group, we work together to manage our in-game faction. We have an overarching goal of building a large and active player base to become a contracting organization for other player groups who need a hand. When we reach that point, we'll be providing aid all the way from general faction support to Powerplay, combat aid, and even Thargoid relief efforts to any other group that comes calling. We believe that, acting together, the galaxy will be stronger. To make sure our pilots are able to easily find others with similar playstyles, we've created 5 divisions within our group that players can voluntarily join, based on their approach to gameplay. That's why we have five animal heads within our emblem!
It's a gorgeous emblem, kudos to the graphic designer! Does your group have a motto?
Our motto is something that we decided right at the start. It's designed to reflect our inclusiveness of our LGBT+ brothers, sisters, and siblings, and our philosophy towards supporting other player groups. Virtute Simul, it means 'power together'. As mentioned before, we believe in the strength of the bonds between people.
Admirable. Where is the White Scar Contingency based?
Our group is based in the Dakshmandi System and enjoys the perks of being close to the Imperial Core. However, we're in the process of coordinating our expansion, so keep an eye out for us!
So, what’s the coolest thing the group has achieved so far?
When our faction was added to the game, we faced a lot of initial adversity. Over the course of about two and a half months, despite our small member count of only about 10-15 pilots, we prevailed under the guidance of our philosophy of 'strength among friends'. We reached out to nearby groups and found friendly allies willing to help and with a bit of aid we were able to outlast our assailants. During that time we grew and because of this we always say that our faction was forged in fire, and we're very proud of that.
We're sorry to hear you had to go through adversity, but we're proud you all came out stronger! If you could give one piece of advice to every Commander, what would it be?
Be the Commander you would have wanted to meet when you first started playing Elite Dangerous. Be an ally, not an enemy, and protect those that need protecting.
Are there any other Squadrons or player groups you want to give a shout out to?
Yes! Everyone already knows Lavigny's Legion, but we'd also like to give a shout out to F.P.F. and P.A.L. as these were the factions that lent their aid and advice to us in our faction's infancy and they deserve recognition.
Are there any events or activities on the horizon you’d like to share?
We're currently planning a celebratory series of races that will take place in the canyons surrounding Farseer Inc in the Deciat System. We're calling it the "Farseer Classic", however the details aren't set in stone yet.
How can Commanders get in touch if they're interested in learning more about the group?
We don't have many avenues of contact, but we do have a public Discord server that can be accessed through this link https://discord.gg/7enWyda
One last thing! We understand one of your members is going to be running a charity stream soon. Tell us more!
Yes! Commander Sapphire Horizons is going to be running a 24-hour livestream, playing a selection of space-themed games on Saturday 22 June, from 18:00 UTC in support of Stonewall. They'll be accepting donations towards the charity during the stream, and will be giving away assorted prizes, including some Elite Dangerous Prize Packs! Find out more here.
Thank you for taking the time to chat to us, Commanders and we wish you luck in all your future endeavours!
