Since the update, I’ve been unable to see my fed / imperial rank in the right hand “status” panel. Is this a bug, or is it related to the recent server outages? Should we stop trying to gain fed/imp reputation until it’s resolved?

I have the same issue on PC. I see the rank but it's wrong one. It looks like a bug, I don't believe it's a part of the change log.
Currently I feel stuck, for a very long time I didn't get the navy mission and too long I am master (I think).
Now it looks like the mission tab is not refreshing.

Same here on PlayStation. There is an issue on the Issue Tracker about it.
Imperial ranks are bugged too
It's only a visual bug. When you rank up, it tells you the proper rank (and you don't get access to ships you previously couldn't). The biggest downside is you don't know when you're ready for a rank up mission.
For me, it looks like maybe it glitched and "added" your rank twice to the display. Pre-patch, I was Imperial rank 4. When I logged in, it showed rank 8 (still only rank 4 privileges). I've been ranking up for the Cutter and been getting the rank up missions (with proper promotion levels listed in the reward mails). I'm Marquis now, but my displayed rank went blank after getting promoted when it displayed King.
