Fed Rank - Any benefit to going past Rear Admiral

With a salute and a couple of credits one might be able to buy a cup of coffee in 3305.

Then again the salute is probably uneccessary but but the 2 cr will still be required. :D

Not much point, we will probably never see a Core Dynamics ships that require top rank. We will be lucky to ever get a new Imperial or Federal ship. FDev don't like ranked locked ships, so it's Lakon and DeLacy all the way.

It's another one of those personal narrative things unfortunately. Still, considering the mission that go me to the top of the Imperial ranks I like the idea of being King of the poo shovelers.

how are rank missions activated . Had a few initially but don't seem to get them know. This is a legacy from the original idea of the sequel where you would progress within the space navy.

There should be special perk and missions for space navy ranks. Do you get decals skins? Also taking part in actual space navy campaigns. Special space navy outposts.

Expect the original plan was to give access to capital ships at the max rank for the factions but that was then dumped when they could not work out how to transfer the player correctly from station to capital ship.... (taxi ship required)
All rank up missions are still triggered when the rank is sitting at 100% for a rank but there are only a fixed number of ranks... at last rank no other rank ups are offered..

Agree. If your rank is well underway and you are commited to it ... then why stop on 2/3rds of the track ?
It takes about 50% more missions/time to get max ranks.
I did the grind from novice to rear admiral over a few weeks playing 4-6hrs daily because I really wanted a Corvette. Shortly after that I was offered a Fed Navy mission on my normal game play and on finishing it got the promotion to Admiral but it was nowhere near 50% more missions. To be honest I never even knew there was an Admiral rank until I got it but it was certainly no more than a week or so later and by then I was playing my normal 1-2hrs game. Although I was just interested in getting a Corvette and not the rank I do get a kick when EDDI welcomes me to the game and my home system using my rank.

I suspect the original plan was to leave the developers headroom to introduce new ships or other perks, but there was so much complaining about the rank grind that any such plans have been abandoned; I've also wondered if the Chieftain and Krait series of ships were originally intended to be Alliance rank unlocks, until the grind moaning made the devs give up on that idea too.

Perhaps one day the presence of two huge, complex militaries that have been at each other's throats for a thousand years will be more than just a way of getting a ship.

(Probably not, sure, but I'm not completely giving up hope.)
