Fed up after the April update.

I started this game a week ago, since the update I get attacked by a NPC every single jump. I'm playing in solo mode because I didn't want all the dog fighting.
Totally fed up and quitting this nonsense.

When I first bought the game I didn't like it much. I found it annoying, slow, down right infuriating. I couldn't understand much of it because there was just so little information available in game and I hated having to go research everything on some website somewhere like I was studying for something. It felt overly complicated and devoid of any sense for a while to be honest. I couldn't find anything, everything felt like a scavenger hunt where I had to guess at where to go, what to do, how to do it. I stuck it out, kept playing as much out of shear stubbornness as curiosity.
I didn't like combat at all originally. the spawning of pirates every time I took a trade mission felt more like I was being set up by the faction I was working for than any random event. I skipped most missions because having to search for a station selling a commodity was a chore. I didn't like outfitting ships because no matter where I was it always seemed like what I needed was somewhere else.
Then I found some tools that helped-EDdiscovery, trade computer extension II, two third party programs that really helped me to find my way in the game. I did indeed spend a lot of time on websites, more than I wanted to, learning about the game mechanics. People actually helped and answered questions for me which is a nice element in this community forum, don't let the trolls fool you its nicer than it might first seem.

some things to look at:
Are you wanted in a system somewhere? did you do a mission that made you hostile to another faction in some system? your right hand screen will tell you if you're running a bounty or a fine. you can pay this off in systems at contacts, you can also look for interstellar services using the galaxy map to search systems in your planets, this will allow you to pay off any fines or bounties you might be having.

are you carrying some cargo in your hold? sometimes when you turn in a mission it will deposit some reward in your cargo that you can sell. I didn't realize that myself at first and found myself getting chased for that 1 ton item I was carrying without knowing it.

Did you abandon a mission? This will sometimes cause you to get a bounty and a fine which will cause bounty hunter NPCs to chase you down. this can be paid off at that interstellar services I was referring to.

If you didn't want all the 'dog fighting' then you're doing the right thing by quitting. Solo mode only gives you safety from players. You are still subject to the 'whims' of NPCs.

Most everyone who plays goes through the same experience you're having.

Persevere and you will get through that phase. Search this forum and the web for beginner recommendations on what ship to buy, how to unlock certain engineers to be able to mod your ship so you can survive NPCs as well as what tactics to learn to survive.

No one is immune to "Rage quit" reactions from the game.

Good luck.

Yeah well to me its seen better days. When i first started playing, it seemed to be a dumb timer based on experience, so if you hadn't been interdicted in 1-2 hours regardless of what you were doing, you got one, and this did something really positive of making you feel like the galaxy was alive. You could also pretty much kill it too in most ships all you needed was guns.

Then engineering dropped and the ai thinks its frikkin smart and interdictions turned into a pest, guaranteed based on cargo and because of engineering requires you to combat spec or run. It was better when it was simple and stupid and had more value to the player rather than the design document of the ai programmer.

Yeah if you're new it could be completely infuriating. There are a bunch of things where 'having experienced better days' excuses stuff they built into the present...

Babellon's post sums it up. Sounds like you've annoyed someone in order to be chased down as you suggest. Fighting, if you get things wrong, is a part of the game in any mode.

There is no Elite "Peaceful" mode, If you take on missions they ALL state that enemy ships may be sent after you these NPC's are all based on the level of missions that you take on, not your level. In any case complete the missions you have taken on & those NOC's will stop following you.

In the meantime, if you don't want to dogfight, learn how to defeat the interdiction itself, it is seriously easy, especially against lower end npc's, the more you do it the better you will become.

Or learn that sometimes you have to drop & give the pirate what he (or she) wants.

Technically speaking, I haven't lost a ship in the game since 2015, and I mostly only pilot small, un-engineered ships. So... there is that. Kind of getting a little board waiting to die. :p

I don't really get it.
NPCs attack you in any mode, especially if you have cargo and are in low security systems. Or if there is a mission active that has enemies sent after you. Either you learn to run or you have a suitable ship for fighting and learn to do that. Both might take a bit of time, but well, isn't that always the way it is?

Hey, maybe we get a combat assist next! Or and escape assist! ... That was sarcasm. Please ignore. :D

Hey OP - if you want help to understand what is happening better to ask in the Newcomers section though even they get annoyed at pre-emptive rage-quit threads :) (This area is more for seasoned players (in terms of age & saltiness ;) ).

As others have said - you either have missions / cargo that makes pirates want to say hello, or you've annoyed someone by abandoning a previous mission. Otherwise pirates might stop you, but they won't attack. we could help work it out, if only you hadn't quit.

Anyway, have fun in whatever massive multiplayer space game you find to replace this one ;)

Wait till you're interdicted by two NPC pirate ships! Great fun. Happens occasionally when I'm in the Corvette and they hardly scratch the paintwork before they die.

I'd be happy to escort you if it helps.

OMG I just had 3 ships try to interdict me on a 126 LY course to deliver 300M in void opals, oh what a shame they were all avoided successfully...

Avoiding interdictions is the easy part... If you accept MOST missions you will usually get interdictions, if you have high value cargo you will sometimes get interdictions, and if you do these while in lo-sec areas you can (you guessed it) expect even more interdictions...

Take some diction avoidance classes and send them interdictors into the ditch :)

Normally I submit, boost, jump, usually works against any NPC, they're not particularly good, but I don't do missions and never carry anything in my hold, oh yes and being 10-20kly away from the nearest civilisation probably helps a bit there as well

Mind you last time I came back to the bubble to turn in my explo data I didn't get interdicted. What you do, where you go, how you play all affect the numbers of interdictions. While it might seem a good idea to stack up 20 elite rank data missions to make some fast rep or money you will get 20 elite NPC's trying to kick your tubes!
