'Fed' up with being hostile

I've been hostile in FED space for a long time. Got in their bad books when I first started playing a while ago as I was experimenting with various ways to play and I didn't know it was even possible to become hostile. Now I just try and avoid Fed space altogether, which is quite limiting, and when I've played in Wings it causes issues for my fellow wingmen.

I know that I have to do endless missions to try and get back in favour, but it's a real pain, especially a) I am a bit more of a casual player and don't like the idea of having to put so much time in just to get back to a more enjoyable playing experience and b) I'm not that turned on by the missions in the game anyway.

With PowerPlay, can I just side with a faction against the Federation as a way of (sort of) getting round this? Or do I just need to delete my savegames and start again (which, after quite a few hours invested all in all, doesn't sound very attractive).

I had this issue due to me not understanding how rep and factions worked. I was hostile with the feds but it only took me 2 days to end up friendly. Find a civilization outpost in Fed space that has trading and missions, that way there's no police to mow you down. Just grind a bit until you end up neutral and work from there. Otherwise get good and landing REALLY QUICKLY :-D

In 1.3, your hostile reputation will slowly decay over time. I'm not quite sure what the exact time frame is, as the 'clock' has been sped up quite a bit in the Beta.

What steve_muzz said is good advice. I find a quick way of getting up rep if you are combat orientated is to go to an anarchy system or a neutral system with a RES with a KWS and just grind bounties. 1 million in Federation bounties would really push up your rep.

ok great thanks guys.

Yes I am more combat oriented. Sorry for basic question but what do you mean by RES? KWS = Kill Warrant Scanner I guess, and ?

Also is there anything else I need to look out for, i.e. checking first if they have allegiance to any Fed faction, etc?

sorry, RES is resource extraction site, they're navigation points in planetary rings where ships go to mine resources, as a result pirates show up so there are lot's of bounty hunting targets, you find them in systems with gas giants. Although a NAV beacon at a anarchy system is probably easier. And yes KWS is kill warrant scanner.
I wouldn't worry too much about factions, just kill anything that's wanted and make some money, when you have a lot of FED bounties go to a FED system with an outpost, dock and collect the cash, and your rep will go up.

When I started I didn't really do any missions, just got up to a viper and went bounty hunting and was able to become allied with all three major factions. Although I don't see whats so 'major' about the Alliance.

I've been on hostile rep for months now after doing countless(20-30) rep gain missions. Last night gave 4 million credits to a fed war effort and still just stuck on hostile. It's really frustrating playing a game for months that I can't improve my rep.

Have you been doing all those missions in one place, or have you been to multiple systems? You need to improve your rep with multiple minor factions to recover from being hostile with the major faction.

About 5 stations, I had to first land while being fired on, doing rep gain and trading missions till they stop shooting when I dock. All the time my right panel stays on hostile. Spend more time doing rep gain at these stations than I do trade to make money. I'll try opening a few more but for a silly illegal rares run I did a few months ago I have lost countless opportunities to make money trying to fix this.

Thanks for the input.

I quite friendly with the Fed's and other Independents simply by trading in there territory and taking bounties at the Nav beacon.

Perhaps that might work as an alternate to the missions? Find a couple of Fed systems with just outposts, no large stations and base between them. It might take longer than the missions to get the good feeling back but might be less dull!

I had the same issue.

Found a system with Fed presence (but not actual ownership) and decent trade routes to Fed outposts (not main stations)
Did loads of missions, trading, and bounty hunting.

I'm now allied. Took a little while but definitely worth it.

...or another method. Go exploring. Sell your data at a Fed station.

I just did a 2-day trip, 1500ly out & back again, and sold all my data at one of the Sirius Corp. outposts.
Made around 8m credits and went from neutral to allied - got my Sirius Permit now :)
