In your opinions, what are the best ways to grind out the ranks for both the Federation and the Empire?

Missions, as poorly as they pay right now, missions. But they have to be missions from factions aligned with your respective superpower.
I know that missions are how it's done, but are there any systems good for it in particular?
17 Draconis is the quickest way to rank up that I have found. You need to be willing to blow several hundred million on charity donations though.
I've heard tell that 17 Draconis is rather bugged.

I went from no rank to Baron in three and a half days in the Empire doing HIP 10716 to Wu Guinagi. Lots of data and passengers to shuttle back and forth.
There were quite a few charity missions in Hip/Wu as well. Cheap ones, too ... starting at 25K. I refused to pay any more than 125K, though, but more expensive ones were there as well.
If im not mistaken, the price of a charity mission no longer affects how much rep you gain. By that I mean they all earn the same.
Correct. They earn the same percentage.
Systems I use for Imp is Wu/Hip 10716 and Aditi, and as both states change so quick with it being popular; you can earn a pretty penny doing CZ in civil war when the board go dry.
Choose a faction / playerfaction that you like, stay about 1 year in their area and help them gaining more influence and systems

I am not sure it's a FDev wanted result... but since the last 2-3 game updates I do see that the rank progression has slowed a lot. I have not been used to rank up, since I was mostly playing ED for RES/CZ skirmishes, and the rank didn't mean anything to me until I decided to switch from my Vulture to a FAS.
Once I've got the Sol permit, I spent a couple of weeks roaming around the various systems with my iCobraMkIII... boom data/cargo delivery, some charity as well, trading food/metals where profitable and all missions REP++ rated: any one of these was giving to me 1~2% progression in the rank (needed Chief Petty Officer). At the end it took more than 50 missions to make it, all barely paid (got 3~10k each).
Ranking up looks to me more like an "investment" (wooooot?) than a real game progression, as missions don't pay anything and charity ones are now reaaally expensive.
Passenger ones should be better, but after having read about the many bugs I avoided them (and a CobraMkIII is not very suited for those).
At the end I've got it and bought my FAS http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/REBEL YELL 82ND/screenshot/5186586 now back to my home system to raise Cr.

Can confirm this route for empire, took 2 days of straight grinding with very little breaks to reach baron in just 2
Conflict zones.
1) Get a wing big as you can, find system where an Empire faction is at war
2) Stack massacre missions to the brim for said Empire faction
3) Go massacre
4) Come back having actually enjoyed missions, and with an extra 50 to 100 mill in your pocket
5) Repeat
Best or quickest?
Best would be to play the game how you enjoy and "eventually" get the ranks.
Or quickest is to mission grind, with tens of millions of credits plowed into charity missions - accept them all, pay them all, log out and back in on opposite Open/Solo play and repeat, not really the best as that would just be a big suck of time...

It's like 25000 = .8% increase and 1 million = 1% increase.
Not exact numbers but they are different.
Donation missions. It'll cost you like 50-60 million for any serious gain, but if you hunt famine systems and board swap for donations missions, you'll find em. Sooooo expensive though.
I just watch esports while I do it. It's a win win because I have like 20 hours of Gears of War MLG events to catch up with lol

Been there three times and not a single Imperial faction is offering missions at any port. There are potentially smuggling missions from unaffiliated pirates, but if you haven't already ranked them to cordial, good luck being offered any.
Oh, and of course, they got whanged by the wild Nerfbat too, so the payouts are atrocious, in addition to not offering rank.
