Ships Federal Assault Ship gun placement.

Does anyone else feel the gun placement on top of the ship should be lower, perhaps have a bay open up where the emblem shows above the cockpit? This would enable enable tighter spread when using lasers as right now you can't always get both upper and lower guns firing on target simultaneously without precise centering at all times.

This is merely a suggestion. But I think seeing the diagonal facing on front sport a bay that opens back into the hull with a gun just above the cockpit could be very cool.

The hardpoint convergence on the FAS is actually pretty good. The upper and lower large HP can be used for fixed weapons against most ships, except very small ones. Personally I think it's fine as is... definetely much better than on the Clipper ;)

Great ship, fantastic maneuverability, terrible hard point placement.
Upgraded from a Vulture to a FAS because I wanted 2x pulse & 2x multi cannon.
Sold it and bought a FDL.
Great ship, not as maneuverable, fantastic hard point placement

Considering the description claims the FAS has superior weapon placement to the Dropship.. When in reality the opposite is true. Yeah, I've avoided using the FAS a whole lot despite its awesome maneuverability because I just can't figure out what to do with that top-mounted hardpoint.

A fixed large beam and dual medium railguns on the lower proved to be tremendous amounts of fun, but with a second laser fitted to the top large hardpoint I was noticing that it was just never hitting anything on medium and small ships. Honestly I like the Dropship's weapon config and layout a whole lot more.. If only that ship had the ability to fly anywhere other than in a straight line. In the end, I made the push to pick up the Corvette and have never looked back.

I like the current hardpoint placement. I just use fixed weapons on the lower hardpoints, and a gimballed laser on the top hardpoint for when the target is not exactly in front of my nose.

I fly my fas more than my vette, it's just more fun imo. I'm running all fixed pa's though.

I have stuck by my Fer-De-Lance because of the excellent medium hardpoint placement. As for using fixed weapons. I'm on Xbox and find it tedious to use fixed weapons when engaging smaller and more agile opponents.

I agree the ships need negatives or else the perfect ship would simply dominate. But the reality is the placement isn't really that good on the Assault Ship and it does state to be an improved combat variant of the Dropship, which actually has better gun placement. I remember running a Dropship with 3 pulse, 1 large, 2 medium, and 2 medium muticannons. It was sluggish but deadly. My Fer-De-Lance is proving just as deadly and more.

I had high hopes for the Assault Ship and think it's good. It should hit harder though and more quickly considering the weak shields. That's my take and my reason for asking for gun placement adjustment.

I'm not a fan of the FAS hardpoints. The top/bottom won't fire together unless the target is rather centered... I much preferred hardpoints on the Viper and Vulture, but those ships have their own combat issues.

In saying this, the Assault Ship sporting 3 pulse beams on lower (1 large) and a large plasma accelerator on top still punches heavily against any opponent. Just don't get caught against a tough wing with those shields!

Not tried the FAS yet, but i hear the it is the dogs dodahs in combat, but i can at least agree with you (Yes, my friend we can agree on something :) ) on the placement for the Clipper, and will add to that list the Cutter as well!

It has "better weapon placement" than the Federal Dropship! Which probably has the worst space-fight weapon placement in the game. xD It's quite obiously designed with ground-support in mind (planetary landing and such, never really attacked an outpost myself, but if I'd had to, I'd take the FDS).
I had the FDS as heaviely armed trader for some time, so the FAS is a decent upgrade.

If your target is too small to cross the beams upon, you're too far away! Full speed boost and then raaaaamspeeeed! ;)

The FDLs outermost hardpoints are at least as far apart as the large one on the FAS. I think the unusual top/down placement makes it look worse than it actually is and needs a while to get used to. Of course you could also just mount a gimballed weapon on the upper hp.

I'm sorry, you lost me at "the Federal Dropship probably has the worst space-fight weapon placement in the game."

Are we talking about the same ship ? the federal one, with 5 hardpoints in a very tight spread ?

Give me a Vulture with 2x large pulse & 2x medium multi cannons and I don't think I would fly my FDL anymore
On that note, give me a FdL with 2 large & 4 med instead of 1 huge & 4 med, and I wouldn't fly the FAS anymore.

...3 of them at the bottom of the ship, yes. :)
Cutting off about 90% of "space" (hence my "space fight-weapon placement").
ASP has 6 (tiny little) hardpoints around the cockpit. Can shoot pretty much everything in front of you - above own ship, below own ship, don't matter.

All ships have good and bad. Removing all the bad from one ship wouldn't be good.

This always gets me...why not remove the bad from all the ships. Why design a ship with an inherent flaw? The ships are given active handicaps engineered in on purpose rather than a side effect (slow and poor turning is a side effect of being big and heavy and well armored, it's acceptable. A Clipper's guns point straight forward instead of angled inward slightly for good convergence is engineering in a flaw so that there is a flaw.) It makes no sense, it's just confusing. Design them all well, but different (easier said than done, but not at all impossible).

Why make delicious ice cream and then put olive pits in it? Just so that it isn't too much more delicious than another kind of ice cream that you decided was too good so you mixed some limburger in there? How about we get rid of the olive pits and the limburger and enjoy all the flavors?

Not in ED though, no, it's basically a choice between "Do I prefer to spit out olive pits while I eat my icecream? Or just plug my nose so I can't smell the limburger?" Which bothers me less?

You are probably using gimballed weapons, while he's using fixed. The FDS hardpoints are perfect for fixed weapons, but bad for gimballs.
