Ships Federal Assault Ship Owners Club

Today I finally have reached needed Federation rank for this ship and my first experience (after spent longer time in Federal Dropship) was like a "wooow" and I named this ship for myself "Black mamba" :) ... I'm almost sure there is more commanders which like this ship. Can be shared some your experience?


... hitting Viper with PA was really a fun at compromised beacon :) ... or flying close to planet surface at almost constant speed range 370-400 ...

My build: Coriolis shipyard (for some tougher moments there is cargo and hangar for change to armor upgrades ... 2000 armor is interesting :) )

Was using this loadout for some time now.
Gimballed pulses because large HP convergence is not that great, especially against small targets and need to save power to be able to fire rails.
I tested PA variant and returned to rails, because they seem to be more practical. Especialy now, with ability to reload them. Aslo imperial hammers have some crazy animation:

As usually did not find place for HRP but armour is still good...
Prismatic shield is also usefull for FAS, ~25% more shield, and ship has more than enough power for it...

... I visited Compromised beacon and after some time saw that my PA do not fire with big red X aim cross and thought for a few second what it is :D ... with previous ship experience never depleted ammo before needed visit base for repairs ;)

Lovely hunk of metal, I use a gimballed large pulse on the roof and a fixed large burst on the chin along with two Imperial Hammers.

All armor except one class 5 bi-weave, tough as nails and agile like nothing else.'

I had it with 2 Beams on the class 3 HP and 2 medium cannons, NPC´s powerplants just poof.
Bi-wave shields worked better for me, and had lots of armor to keep hammering, there is no running away, that ship dominates.
 
Bought a FAS yesterday. I've not had this much fun since first getting into a Vulture.

I've spent a few hours in a high RES. makes short work of most NPC Pythons, they often don't get a shot in. Lone Anacondas take a bit more, I can get their shield down quick enough, but they take a hell of a pounding. Sometimes they get my shield down, most often they don't. My bi-wave shield charges up fast and i have enough armour to ride the back of the anaconda while the shield re-charges.

I'm not a good enough pilot to cope happily with wings, a cobra and 2 eagles took my shields out and got me to 91% hull. it was all over very quickly once the cobra died.

I'm enjoying flying the FAS much more than I did the FdL I tried last week. It seems very agile for its size.

A bit strange, HRP-s but no military grade composites... add those and you will have much more armour.
Also i'd try something different in medium hardpoints, cannons/multicannons to be able to shoot with low power to weapons, or PA-s/rails for burst damage. IIRC they fixed medium PA-s in 1.5/2.0 so they should be viable now, and they do not have big ship damage penalty unlike pulses.

2x med beams make short work of shields and once they are off, cannon destorys sub systems. No stress with power or heat so I find it easy going, can take a beating as well when shields are off. With the agility really doesnt happen all too often unless you take on Anacondas with 2x Dropship+ wingmen. Other than wings, nothing can match it in 1 on 1. Still prefer to fly this over my FDL even after the FDL got the power upgrades. As much as the FDL has better shields and much more utility, its completely ridiculous jump range make it so not fun to do anything with :)

I did have 2x Large PA/2x Med Beam build as well but too much waiting for pips, cooldown.

I have got military grade, just missed it from app. I blame tiredness :D
I just don't like having to go back for ammo as I'm not the most accurate of shooters. Might consider it though at some point, my current locale doesn't have a shipyard or outfitting.
 
I love the FAS! I used a Vulture for a long time for popping pirates in RESs, then finally had enough credits to trade it in for a FAS and haven't looked back.

The shields are weak, yes, but when your ship is this agile as well as being heavily armoured for it's size then it doesn't really matter. The 'Shields Offline' warning used to be my cue to execute a tactical run away maneuver, but I've now got out of that habit because the FAS can take plenty of hits to the hull.

I used to run 5A shields but I soon realised it was pointless and that I could fit Bi-Weave shields instead for a significant increase in recharge time whilst not actually losing that much overall strength. There are also the added bonuses of the Bi-Weave using less power and being much cheaper (850k vs 5.1m for the 5A).

I don't actually have the Military Grade Composite yet as I'm still saving up for it. Even without it though it still has 1900 armour. :)
 
Sold my boring Vulture to get my fun FAS, and then used it to BH in haz-RESes to pay for its upgrades.

My current build: 2x C2 beams and 2x C3 frag cannons. The C2 fixed beam lasers take down shields quickly, and the large frag cannons are hilarious, and are viable now they have more ammo.

2: same loadout but with 2x C2 multicannons, 1x C3 beam, and 1x C3 PA.
This is what I was using previously. Decent all-rounder, and opening a fight with a PA against shields is always a fun way to say hello, but I was rarely using the PA, so I switched to the frag cannon fit, where every weapon gets used.

I recently decided to go through my fleet and review all the ships engineering, loadout, etc, and was still stumped what to do with it.

Then I was reading up on how to effectively use short range inertial impact bursts and thought, ok, why not stick them on the FAS and give it a try.

And boy, is it fun! It can move very well for a medium ship and the relatively weak shields don't matter when you're not getting hit by sticking to the tail of your target. The jitter from intertial impact doesn't matter too much when firing at point blank range either.

I can see it now becoming one of my favourite ships for bounty hunting.

If only FD would release a ship kit for it!
