Ships Federal Assault Ship: Some outfitting advice

This is my current FAS build. Simple, no nonsense, kills everything. Right now, I'm using it for the various bounty CGs, I'm currently stationed in Varati. I've finally gotten the ship fully upgraded and equipped, and at this point I'm at the "mix-and-match" stage of ownership. I'd considered moving on to the FDL, but this ship flies like a Spitfire and is very capable of killing some very big nasty ships, and any friends they bring, very, very dead. As a result, I'm kind of reluctant to sell it now.

But I digress. The one thing I noticed when I finally upgraded it was the fact that the weapon capacitor, with full pips to weapons, takes a very long time to drain with gimballed pulses in combat, mostly because in certain situations both guns may not be firing. But even so, the capacitor's charge is fantastic and I can sustain fire for quite a lengthy period of time. At the same time, I have power to spare in this machine.

The thought was, how feasible is it to stick a pair of beams in the two large slots? What about replacing the Multis with burst lasers? What about an all pulse loadout? I'm a fan of lasers so I try to include them in every build I do.

EDIT: Frontier, please add a prefix for the Federal Assault Ship. Calling it the Dropship is almost insulting.

This FAS build will take the 2 beams very well.

Although you have enough power to run beams the 6A PD weapon cap can only run around 3 MW of sustained weapon fire, adding beams will drain the capacitor pretty quick even with m-cannons fitted.

I run an all fixed pulse FAS because the class 2/3 underside hardpoints with gimbals stopped firing as the ship pitched up, and anyway the ship has the agility to use fixed successfully, I did try some medium fixed m-cannons recently but I don't get on with mixed sighting systems and the darned things always seemed to be reloading when I wanted to fire!

Possibly a single large fixed m-cannon (coming soon!) on the underside is worth considering, with that in mind I've been running a Python and an FDS with a class 2 fixed m-cannon and that works rather well but both of these ships have five hardpoints to the FAS's four.

Unless you want to try a class 3 PA (up top location works well apparently) you could run a smaller power plant like a 5A (less mass) or 6B (tougher), in fact even a 5A will power a the PA with a bit of power management,

I recommend bursts on the FAS rather than beams.
One large burst is very quick on small ships shields and hull, then the multis rip them. and the second large with a class 3 PA for large ships mixed with short bursts of the laser then PP sniping with the multis/cannons and the PA.

I run a FAS with 1 large burst, one large PA and 2 medium PA. Everything goes POP fairly quick.

Just because a ship can successfully mount fixed doesn't mean the pilot can. :p I'm a terrible shot so I used Gimballed weapons where I can get away with it.

I use 2 med multi cannons, and 2 C3 beams on my FAS. The 2 C3 beams take out shields well and quick enough, then I unload with the multi cannons while my ship cools down and the weap capasitor fills up again. I don't mix the multi cannons and beams at the same time that often, since the multi cannons need time to reload, and I like having weap capasitor energy levels that can sustain the fire of both beams long enough to keep me constantly laying down the pain while reloading. Firing all 4 weapons at once with this loadout will leave your capasitor empty & ship steaming pretty quick.

I also got the FAS specifically for CG combat. Very capable vessel, and costs a lot less to buy back then my A spec Python

So I've fitted burst lasers on the class 3s and I'm happy with their performance. I'm trying to find other mixes, though. Thompson Dock at Varati appears to be well equipped with modules to mix and match. In fact, they may or may not have every weapon available there for everything rank 3 and below.
