Federal Corvette or Imperial Cutter?

Hey guys and gals of the galaxy.

On my main account I'm slowly working towards the Cutter because I've already put in the time for it but I have a second account I'm playing from scratch now I know more about the game so a question, in your honest opinion for a better game experience, what one of these 2 is the more fun to play?
I have heard about both (Corvette is super fun in combat, Cutter looks better but excels at trading). Are they both comparable or is one just more fun to fly around in? Also, I know the Corvette has pretty poor jump range even when engineered so can the Cutter get better range and do some local exploring decently? I want a clear goal on my second account and I class these 2 ships as my goals so what one would you guys personally aim for first? Any and all advice is apriciated as always! Thanks in advance Commanders and fly safe! o7

What do you want to do?

I use my Cutter for trading and passenger missions. I use my Corvette for pew pew. I love the cutter however the time I spend in it is usually a bit to relaxing. I've spent a lot of time in my corvette mostly learning how to make it strong. The amount of info you need to assimilate when deciding to take it in to battle vs another or player or the computer is fun. For that reason I would suggest the Corvette.

Yeah I'm looking for a bit more of a relaxing time than pew pew. So if the Cutter is decent at passenger missions and things of that nature I can focus on my main account more then. I made the second because my main account is pretty all over the place but I suppose I can sorta refresh it by selling the couple ships I have and focus on my mission grinding Python. I like combat but because that's been mostly what I've done I'm getting pretty sick of it so I think I'll sell my FDL and just focus on missions. I'm currently Viscount so got a bit of a ways to go for my Duke rank but I have fun mission grinding believe or not and I do it in a location which got me from 40% Baron to 13% Viscount in what only felt like an hour so it's not a bore. Thanks for solidifying my choice for the more luxurious ship. I do like more passive play because I do much prefer the sight seeing/exploration side of the game. o7

Keep playing long enough and you'll eventually want both. I'm currently running meatbags (passengers) in my Cutter, but hopping in the Vette every now and then can be a good bit of fun. The Vette got me most of the way through Deadly at any rate.

As you are working towards the Cutter first on one account I would go for the Corvette first on the other. It only makes sense. You would then be able to experience both.

I have both ships.

Corvette is more agile in combat, but has a limited jump range (it needs maximum FSD engineering to become more effective).
Once the FSD is upgraded and engineered you can move around just fine. The jump range will be acceptable for a war ship, but not really fit for long range deep space exploration.
Be careful where you buy the Corvette. There are stories of people buying it and then having great difficulty getting it out of that system (happened to me too :)) because of its jump range with an E-rated FSD, and because there were no appropriate higher rated FSD module's available in that system. So check first if you can buy an FSD upgrade in that system too (could be another station in the same system).

The Cutter is a fast ship and excels at bulk trading. She is not as agile as the Corvette, but should not be underestimated in combat either.
The Cutter is excellent for exploring when you engineer the FSD and add a fuel scoop. I think it is an awesome ship, and not just because of its beautiful design.

You could just do a ship transfer if you bought a beached corvette I guess? Long as it's not to somewhere too far away, that could get expensive.

Yes that is a good option now that ship transfer has been implemented.

The two ships are really different. My experience with them is PVE only.

The Corvette handles well, has great firepower, and is excellent in combat. It can do trading or mining of course, but its jump range slows it down for non-combat tasks.

The Cutter handles like a whale (which I personally like, but a lot of folks don't), is very fast to boost but has a hard time slowing down, can carry oodles of cargo and still defend itself, is formidable in combat but turns way slower than the Corvette, and has a decent jump range.

For me, I tend to do a lot of different stuff, and travel around a lot, so the Cutter is a better choice. But they are both fine ships, if you can afford them.

I can't speak to the abilities of the Corvette, but the Cutter is a good all-rounder. A bit of an offensive down-grade from the Anaconda, but the class 8 shields give defensive options if you "dither".

The Cutter can't stop to save it's life. In a straight line it's fast, but turning or stopping is virtually impossible. That being said, it'll make you more money than you could possibly believe.

The Corvette is great in combat, has great maneuverability, and can linger in protracted combat indefinitely if you set it up right. That being said, it's jump range is beyond awful. I think mine has maybe a 15ly jump range, max. It can be used as a trader. I've done it. But it's awful.

the problem is.....

when you have the kinda money you need for a cutter you just don’t need to stack them missions together to get the credits so vicariously you don’t need a big ship

delivering one mission in a small agile nimble ship or lots of missions in a large lumbering beast

the only other difference is what you look at in the cockpit and from the external camera, everything else is a crazy numbers game where there isn’t a right answer

so I’m against the grain and neither are “fun” as my right answer is a dolphin despite having 2 billion odd credits and a cutter & Vette sat in the shipyard.

the cutter does look nice though, it just flies like a 1970s block of flats and stops just as quick

Both. I'd recommend Cutter first because of its earning potential. There is something sinister about grinding money in a Cutter for a Corvette, but I always enjoyed sliding into Achansa past the dry docked Fed Cap ship in my Cutter. The question is, will you put your Imperial tags on your Corvette?

Very, very different ships.

Vette is probably the best kill farmer in the game. It's nimble, well shielded, and heavily armed.

Cutter is more like, when you wanna take a break, do long drifts, engage in bulk trading, or anything else really, all in a heavily shielded, reasonably fast, and decently armed space whale.

Edit: Also, and while most people don't give a damn, the Vette is by far the best miner in the game :)

Edit 2: The Cutter has limited maneuverability but isn't a T9 either. It just has like 10 times the drift of a Clipper. And if you've flown a Clipper, you know what it means :p

It's kinda fun to fly actually, but it takes a while to be used to.
