Federal DriftShip

Shadow buff anyone? Anyone else notice that the Federal Dropship's manuv has been increased from 0 to 2 and its armor was increased from 300 to 540? Was this mentioned anywhere and I missed it.. or is this just something out of the blue? I don't use it so I'm not familiar with it, but it looks like some of its Shipyard stats have slightly changed recently.

Were the ShipYard stats changed to more accurately reflect the ship, or was the ship rebalanced and the ShipYard stats now reflect that?

I heard they did a general respecing of a lot of different ships. I heard (but can't verify even though I own 2....lol) the Conda was given an armor upgrade.

Too bad the hull doesn't mean anything and armor is made of wet tissue paper in elite universe.

The nose of the dropship is actually very very hard. If the drop ship can keep his nose facing you, you will have a hard time taking out the hull or the power plant. If they increased the armor this only makes it more so.

Yeah its pretty much been verified by the entire community that armor is completely worthless. The only thing it does is let you take 'generally' more hits in PvE. It does nothing to protect from subsystem targeting and you can hit a subsystem from any angle of a ship as long as you don't hit other modules in the way. I've hit a Anaconda's Powerplant by shooting through the tip of its nose once. More armor is completely worthless, and armor upgrades and hullpackages are just expensive trophies.

The only thing I see this new upgrade being good for is tanking out PvE. But if the next gen AI that the mistress of minions plans to implement have subsystem targeting, then it will make armor completely worthless, more so than it is already. Also I neglected to mention earlier: Another stat that looks to have been changed for the dropship is that its shields were actually lowered from 200 to 108.

Until I shamelessly bumped it ;)

so does the DS actually have better handling? Or did they just move the 0 stat to a 2 stat without actually buffing the maneuverability? I heard stories that the stats were edited on paper to display proper values, leaving the actual performance the same as before but with a more accurate display on the "buy" page.

And i repped you for that ;) Actually it never felt like it had 0 maneuverability i'm flying a python now and it feels worse than the fds tbh. Sure it still drifts like crazy but i find it fun to pilot.

The federal dropship feels like it handles the same now as it did before. Its pitch / yaw have always been surprisingly decent. Its acceleration however, is just as much as a joke as always (hence the drifting). Have any of you guys noticed the small hardpoint bays on the nose?

Thanks! I use Military Armor with Hull reinforcements - It obviously works well with NPCs but a really skilled PvPs are a bigger threat. The only real problem with the FDS is maneuverability. It requires the use of a handy "Flight Assist OFF" button when there are many targets like Vipers, etc.
Also, the Turrets are great for NPCs...few larger ships use jammers, but during any fight with a real person, you have to UN-Target them so that the Turrets act like Fixed Beams...and of course, the handling short-falls become more apparent.
However, for just killing NPCs, this ship is absolutely 100% invisible when used with this loadout. I've never lost a fight with any NPCs so far- even Elite. I bet that will change soon though. I've noticed improvements in their tactics.
