Federation & Empire rank up?

What's a somewhat decent way to level up ranks in Empire & Federation? I've been wanting to purchase the cutter and vette for a while, and now that Opal mining is a thing, and I now have the funds. I'm curious to know what you guys do to rank up? Now that board hopping is gone, we obv. aren't able to stack up boom missions as before.

When I did the Empire rep grind a couple of months ago to get a Cutter (well worth it, btw) I did it with data delivery missions between Ngallin and Mainani.

One jump each way, stack 'em high and fly through the ranks. You'll need something that can dock at outposts though. I did the whole thing from no rank to King in a day at most.

I just did a variety of missions for a fed faction and took the REP++++ rewards. Obviously you'll get paid less, but you don't get bored out of your mind grinding just one type of mission, and even after the ranking boost nerf, it's still pretty quick to rank up.

For Feds it was either Sothis/Ceos or Gang Yun/Zhana that worked well. Both pairs of systems had good numbers of missions between 1 and the other. This was a few months ago though.

I also suggest aligning with Aisling Duval or Felicia Winters as I think both give a rep boost for Empire/Feds respectively

I know this hasn’t been commented on in 5 months, but have any of you done the grinding of rescuing passengers off of stations that have been attacked by thargoids? I thought I saw something about ferrying them from stations to some rescue ship and always accepting rep, but I’m not sure if that was specifically in reference to grinding Emp or Fed ranks....

I didn't board hop while ranking up to get my Cutter (which was something I specifically targeted rather than just ranking up as I played the game), but did lots of missions around Cubeo. I also signed to Aisling Duval so that I could get the prismatics (every Cutter needs them). With a medium ship (e.g. Python, obviously ), there are some good routes around there to stack up lots of missions. Just make sure you go for the reputation rewards where possible (when I did the ranking up, there was only one mission reward - it should be quicker to rank up now).

Been suggested before, but I can highly recommend going to a station that has been attacked by the thargoids and running the evacuation missions there. I took an anaconda, absolutely full of economy passenger bays (plus a size 4 shield) and just ran back and forth between the station and the rescue ship. Took me a day to go from Recruit to Rear Admiral.

2 tips.

1. Pick a station with lots of fed/imperial factions. The place I did it had 5, and I think if there were fewer than that I'd have had difficulty filling up.
2. The board refreshes every 10 minutes, on the 10 minutes (13:00, 13:10, 13:20 etc etc), but it takes 2 refreshes to get a full board. I found that I could do the first run, do the second after 1 refresh, but then I had to wait 20 minutes before I could do a 3rd and fill up. Since you can't board hop anymore this is a good chance to catch up on your reading

From an RP perspective, I also found it to be a fairly "realistic" grind. I can completely see my character spending a weekend just ferrying evacuees from a burning station.

I'm currently hauling from a burning station to a rescue ship, ~10Mm round trip. I also highly recommend it and am doing it for Empire rank.

At my station four of the seven minor factions are Empire and the other three are Independent. I think doing this for Federal rank would be even easier as I had to look for quite a while to find a good Empire spot but Federation spots were everywhere. The other thing to look for is an undamaged station in the system where you can land your ship to pickup the rank up missions, my spot doesn't have that so I have to go to another system to actually rank up.

I'm in a T7 so I can haul continuously and keep it filled up with passengers but I usually want to do something else after three runs back and forth anyway.
