Federation(Ensign) Threshold that needs to be passed?

Trying to get Ensign with the Federation at the moment I'am Friendly with them overall and am allied with 3-4 different sub factions. I'am just curious when some of you guys/gals out their achieved Ensign, exactly how many stations we're you friendly/allied with. Trying to get an idea right now of how much longer i have.

Apparently there are random factors involved besides hitting a rep threshold and the rep system itself is a bit arcane, so it is unlikely that you will get hard numbers.

Sometimes you will get two progression missions in days, sometimes it can take weeks.

I remember that I grinned rep for more than two weeks for my lt. Progression mission, and got nothing.

Then I went to empire space to do other stuff, and some days later the progression mission popped in the first fed station I docked when I came back.

My advice is to just keep doing your stuff until the mission becomes available, waiting for it can be very frustrating.

Yokai made a nice post about how the rep system works some time ago, you should check it.

if you are not already Allied with the Minor Fed Faction where the "Search for the president" CG is taking place .. it's proly worth your time to wander down there .
scan cart data on your way .. sign up for the CG & then hand in your cart data .. if you take the scenic route ..(economic route) with luck you will have gained enough cart data getting there to become allied with that minor faction.

you already got great advice above ... just thought you might appreciate a fairly easy way to gain more Federation Rep & add another Fed minor faction to your Allied list.
only another 12hrs until the CG expires / finishes .. so idk if this is really of use to you.
....
worth keeping Eyes open for Federation CG in future .. they really are fast/easy ways to gain Allied with minor factions

time also matters,

i mostly sit with a selection of cargo in a station waiting for a fitting rep-mission to pop up. sometimes 2h while watching tv.

sometimes they just don't spawn, but then after half an hour nothing the rank up mission suddenly spawns.

me thinks, not all factors can be influenced by you.

You can get 1 after an hour of missions, if you can play for a few hours 3-4 rank progressions in a day.

. I have rep with 20+ unique factions. I did nothing but missions for 2 weeks, doing probably around 200+ missions. No rank mission showed. And that RNG theory is pure delusion, there's no evidence for it at all. I'm getting ranks missions 100% of the time in 1.3. There's a bug, you might not have it, but there's a bug.

Seriously i'm allied with the fed and all the minor faction i encounter alligned with fed are allied too. I have done some mission for something like 10 different minor faction and i'm stuck at recruit rank and no rank mission pop up since something like 1 month. So the Andargor link do nothing for me.

So what did i do wrong ?

Here is my plan:
1. Move to new fed system.
2. Grind missions from fed aligned minor faction until you notice "rank progression" mission pops. "Give" missions are best.
3. Do 1 rank progression mission.
4. Move to new system. At least 50 ly away from all previous systems that gave you rank.
5. Repeat (2-4) until Post Commander.
6. Have fun.

I gave up at Petty Officer. No rank missions ever popped up despite being friendly with several systems. Now I've bypassed the dropship so no longer care :D

Already did that. Didn't work.
