Federation rank system what are the perks?

So far the only perk I have seen is when you get to the rank of Ensign, you can purchase the federal drop ship are there any other perks??

Certain system permits become available to you at higher ranks. Eventually, the Federal Corvette will be available, which will most likely require the rank of Admiral.
