Federation Ranking

I'm 100% Allied with the Federation and have been offered no ranking missions at all, except for the initial ones which I presume serve the same function as "breadcrumb quests" in other MMO's, i.e. offering a a player a progression path they might no know existed otherwise

You need to make progress completing missions for federation aligned factions, you'll see a percentage raising under your rank. Once it hits 100% you should be able to pick a mission allowing you to reach the next rank. The more you progress through ranks, the less % a given mission will give you. Your allied status with a major faction has nothing to do with your rabk. The better your reputation is with a minor faction is, the better the missions they will propose you, with a better percentage increase per mission.

So being 100% Allied with the Federation doesn't give you Federation missions, but ratings with Federation minor factions does?

OK. But that makes no sense since iirc it's the Federation itself that gives you ranking missions
