Federation Recruit!

I'm a Recruit! A RECRUIT!!!

Rank progression step one working for me.

Am I particularly fond of the Feds? No.

But I saw a mission, I took it.

I am an opportunist.

21 minutes to travel 40 ly to source Personal Weapons. I love a challenge.

Done and done. And here I am, a Federal Officer. Ironically I got given the mission after some random pirate hunting whilst exploring and heading for Imperial space!

What's the point of this thread? None really. Just wanted to share some happiness. :)

Good job Commander.

I made it up to Cadet, although still only friendly... now to find me some slaves to liberate ;)

Yeah once you make it to midshipman, the mission to get the next rank which I believe is going to be ensign is bugged. I've taken it 4 times now, over the last week, and have yet to find Maelstrom. Normally I would say well perhaps I'm just not lucky, however when you view the mission details once you have accepted it, the name is left blank, which leads me to believe that it is indeed a bug. This has also happened to a guy I play with he litterally spent 12 hours one day looking for maelstrom, made a good amount of credits from other bounties along the way, but we never seem to find him.

Congratulations! I just did that mission this evening, and it was great (if very stressful)....

I had to go 6 jumps to collect the Non-Lethal Weapons from the only place I knew to get them, and 30 minutes to do it in. Forgot to decelerate after one jump and got pulled out of supercruise with a burning hull; managed to get to the station selling them with 18 minutes left (and a 1,900 ls journey at the other end to get back to the mission station) - it was going to be tight but seemed just about doable.

Fueled up, launched, and started back - only to find my fuel tank wouldn't get me all the way - the 4T of cargo just tipped the balance. Solution - scream, swear, then start frantically jumping as fast an possible, and try to make a pit stop in the second-to-last system where there was a small outpost 300 ls from the jump-in point. Engines maxed out plus boost, crash-land on the external pad, fuel and launch - with 5 minutes remaining for the last jump, haul across the 1,900 ls to the station, and dock.

Pushed the supercruise to the limit, almost overshot the station but managed to drop out just in time, boosted through the door to the Coriolis and onto the pad; got to the bulletin board and completed the mission with literally only a handful of seconds to spare!

Huge sigh of relief and decided to call it a night at that point - but it was great fun. I am starting to think that the 10 minute docking timer is about 9 minutes too generous now!

Love it!

That's the kind of thing that keeps me coming back for more. Overcoming these obstacles myself through creative thinking gives me a real sense of achievement.

Plus the combat sometimes seriously gets my heart racing. I'm always up for a fight, and I win all the time against NPCs (not a brag), but sometimes it's damn hard and I'm literally shaking afterwards - wanting even more!

Have you been offered the next mission yet?

I've only ever seen one mission, did that and have never seen one since, anywhere. Maybe I need to stack up the "Propaganda" ones first?

Welcome aboard, recruit! o7 :D

You know what would be cool? When you have a rank with a faction, asking for docking permission at a faction controlled station generates a reply "Welcome, <rank>."

Simple, yet an effective way of bolstering faction pride.

Just became recruit to. Because there seemed to be no reward (lost cash on non-lethal weapons + had to buy a better frame-shift drive) I searched the web to see what being a 'recruit' would give me. Found this post... this mission was stressful ...used the galaxy-map to see where non-lethal weapon exports came from, all the star-systems and stations I visited from that information did not have any non-lethal weapons to sell. Then I looked further and saw one that exported non-lethal weapons but I couldn't reach it because of my rookie frame-shift drive....aargh, had to go and buy one then make a few jumps, refuel somewhere which I barely made.....made it with a few minutes to spare I think. Not sure maybe I didn't get any money back because I failed by a few minutes. Last point I checked I was 1 jump away and had 12 minutes left... I am a recruit now, so what?

I am now a Midshipman but as I already had a permit for Sol I couldn't accept the next mission. I decided to head there anyway to see what it was like as I have a grand total of 250k creds now, not nearly enough for a decent ship I though I'd go check it out. Man you can sell stuff for loads more than average at Abe Lincoln! I see that there is a capital ship there, will have to see if I can dock with it tonight, I presume I can't but will take a tour round Jupiter and Pluto. I have only been trading so far, should I go bounty Hunt then? I reckon the best way to work is to not do missions for everyone, just the Fed aligned parties in each system?

I'm an Ensign.

I'm also an outsider in the Empire (their equivalent of recruit). It's given me permits to 5 additional systems. Ideally I want the rank of Major, but I think Fed only has Lieutenant, Lieutenant Commander and Post Commander.
