Ships Fedral assault ship?

Based on the information revealed on Lave Radio it's going to be either a pure fighter or a very combat focused multi purpose ship - maybe the latter so as to differentiate it more from the FDL. The same source confirmed 2L2M hardpoints, so I'm hoping for something as a counterpoint to the Clipper, with heavy shields and only moderate speed. Assuming it keeps the Dropship's excellent hardpoint placements and is at least OK in other regions it should be a ship worth flying.

Haven't seen this, anyone got a link? Also, what size is the ship supposed to be, is it like a fighter, or maybe asp or even FDS sized?

It's a smaller, more agile FDS variant with a stronger focus on combat and smaller internals; there's a screenshot in the latest newsletter. Its usefulness will be determined by its flight model + shield strength :)

What's that in the upper corner? A dropship?
.
Anyone else notice a particular similarity between this ship's belly and the anaconda's belly?

This pic above shows both new FDS variants. The giveaway is the wings.
The ship in center frame is armed with at least 2 med+ and 1 lrg*, has small fins extending down from nose and 4 main wings with slight back sweep. It also seems flatter than FDS, but I may be wrong. If it's the mk2, the other lrg would most likely be on the roof.
The ship on the left is armed with 2 sml* on the roof, and at least 1 med* on the side in armoured housing just forward of the visible nose wing, which has distinctive wingtip fins. Also visible is the forward main wing, which is higher mounted to the center ship. So this is the new gunship, and looks like weapon placement will be as per FDS mk1 but with 2 sml* on roof.

*(all sizes are assumptions)

does anybody know what rank we need for the dropship mk2 ?

I hope the rank isn't too tough, as I'm not one to suck up to any power. But to be honest, I'm getting pretty bored flying a Vulture, and the FDL is just a big non-starter for me ($50+ million for something I can almost go toe to toe with in my Vulture). I sure hope this thing is the answer I was hoping the DBE was going to be, although I have found a love for it as well (exploring).

yea the FdL really needs a little buff... except that, i have the same hopes for the dropship mk2, i need a heavy fighter who is not to slow (400 boost), not a brick (a little more agility than FdL), have a good shield (400 Mj) and have a decent jump (17 Ly minimum full A), and a little cargo on the side

something like 70% fighter 30% multi-purpose

I think the FDL might be okay if they gave us some useful options for the huge hard point.

In the meantime I'm choosing to believe that the federal gunship will be like a vulture just with more firepower. Maybe 2L4S. And a single pilot cockpit. And an awesome view. And a 30ly jump range. And also a Unicorn although a pony would be okay too.

Isn't the gunship confirmed to have 2 small, 4 medium and 1 large? That's what I'd heard, and what I based the above breakdown on.

Yes it is.

We already have a heavy fighter in the Vulture, and anything bigger like the FDL ceases to be a Fighter as it's too big.

I may defect to the Federation so I can have a Gunship if the stats are pleasing enough :). I'm starting to get really annoyed at the bugging out on the Python...

That doesn't make sense, the FDL is a fighter, it's just badly designed (and is actually barely any larger than the Vulture in terms of hull mass which is why it has to sacrifice so much for its silly huge hardpoint). There's tons of room above the Vulture / FDL for a larger ship with combat focus - and it could well be a "semi multirole" ship like the Courier or DBS but on a larger scale. I think a lot of people would love to see something along the lines of a Python, sacrificing some of the internals for agility, speed and/or greater shield strength. There's no need for a stark delineation between fighter ships with virtually no internals and tiny power plants and the insane do everything multirole Python and Anaconda types, it just happens that the few larger ships that we currently have fall into the latter category.

Just my personal opinion. I think the Vulture just barely qualifies as a fighter as it can still land on a small pad, I haven't flown an FDL personally but it's just too big for me to label it as a fighter simply because it's built to fight. It'd be no different than calling the coming(eventually) Federal Corvette a fighter, as when I see the term fighter I think small and good combat performance. Like I said this is all opinion though.
