Hello Commanders and Developers,
I want to give some feedback about the game and some of the new features.
Frist, I really like the game, its graphics, the style, the flight physics, the sound. I care about the game - thats the reason why I write here. Note that english is not my native language.
I have 2800 in-game hours on the clock, playing a lot, organizing a lot with our group [Flight Club], taking part on cups and so on.
But I'm really thinking about to skip the game now after the latest upgrade. I think Frontier does a lot things right but does one thing wrong. Frontier do not develop the game from the view of a player but with some abstract idea about a pseudo-realistic virtual galaxy in mind. And this is the wrong approach - for the players - at least for players like me.
What the game in some areas really lacks: it is just not fun to play. And it is not dangerous - but is is boring.
One example: the new crime and punishment system: if you read the features it sounds nice. But actually this just leads to wasting time with hoping around to pay a bill or to get back from a jail station to the operation place. Its just burns time. Its not difficult to master or a challenge it is just burning time. My time.
The second thing is piracy. It was already a pain inda neck, but now it is completely out of sense. Frontier, you killed the last bit of fun out of piracy.
I gave it a try and robbed a tanker. I got 4 tons of cheapest cargo. I lost one ship (I figured all out myself for the fun of it without reading tutorials before). Note I don't whine about the lost ship, I don't care - I have money more than enough. Second run I managed it with a ASP against loads of security vipers. Then I was wanted and had to deal with the time burning C&P system. The money form the stolen cargo not even covered the ammo cost.
This is no positive game experience, its is just annoying and ... yes ... it is boring.
And it is not a crime and punishment system - it is just a punishment system. Punishment of players with burning their time with trivial activities (hoping around).
On the other hand there are game mechanics implemented where you can do with brain-dead transport-stacking 100 mio an hour or more.
I think high risc should result in high contribution. Difficult to solve things should give the better payment. This would be an approach from the view of players and from gaming fun.
Or other one: waiting for a ship transfer 40 minutes - its burning time and its is boring and it leads me to do other stuff. It is a feature for pseudo-realistic style but it leads players to close the game. is this the intention? A feature that pauses the player? Of yes - congratulations - it works.
The next thing I did and would like to do is high end combat. As you may know ppl who like this PvP stuff mostly do not like hundreds of hours of PvE-ing and grinding. But frontier put the PvP combat behind a huge wall of PvE-ing. You need the best grades otherwise it makes no sense. This is simply not designed from the point of view of players. The result is that the PvP scene is I'll guess way below 1000 people. The really active scene might be below 50 ppl. On other games ppl would talk a about a dead game with so low player counts.
Other thing is that all is so much complicated. There are material traders now in the game. Why I can't simply pay at engineers with the equivalent materials, why I have to hoping around to a trader (burning life time) and trade them. or why its nit simply possible to find materials easier and in needed quantities. The problem before 3.0 was that some materials can be found only very difficult. Instead of making them available Frontier put the trading layer about the problem. Instead of fixing the problem a work-around has been added.
Ok about the engineers. Actually I don't know how many modified modules I have, Ill guess around 120, maybe more. Now I have to convert all my modules. I was already finished with engineering. Now all start from the beginning? Collecting materials again? I was in the stage of the game where I developed ship fittings and made G5 PvP. My modules are more or less worthless now. Ok I can do the engineering now and its easier than before. But I have to say I lost the trust in Frontier. I expect the next engineer grind with the next upgrade and I'm really tired of collecting materials and hoping around through systems. And that's the main reason why I think about to drop the game.
I wish Frontier more luck about a positive game experience and playing fun instead of player punishment and time sinks.
