Feedback: Multi-crew is

I tried for a little while to think of a better way to say that. I failed.

Right now, the helm did a CRAZY thing- he jumped to another system. The entire game hangs with the jump counter stuck, completely fails to recover, and eventually shows me a dark shot of the cargo hatch, with no UI elements at all. It's still moving and making noise, just disconnected, with ZERO player control.

This game is still in early access, right? EA would excuse this kind of thing happening, for a couple patches. Trying to charge $60 means that this kind of thing should recover. And do it a lot faster.

Welp, I gave it a couple minutes, looks like it's time to kill the process, because the game sure as hell isn't gonna recover.

its as unstable as wings

yesterday i had a multicrew copilot - his client crashed 3 times in 90 minutes. everytime during hyperjumps.

not only did the session break - he had to kill the client via task manager.

Instancing is very shifty, it's not entirely FDs fault. It can be anything from your hardware and router settings, to your ISP, to your friends router and settings. Plus a load of other things. And EDs servers too.

My only complaint is IF the game loses connection for any reason during a transition, automatically quit to the main menu after 60 seconds or so of no response from whatever you're connected too.

And allow us to use the menu during Hyperspace and transitions.

It's the peer to peer base structure, nothing anyone can do about it. If anything is FD's fault, then it's going with that system and trying features with it that simply can't work properly with it.

Its FDev's fault for using that kind of networkign structure that makes it so unstable.

i mean - hey, i am playing with someone in a 2 man group and his game crashes every 10th hyperjump?
I have activated network logs now.
next time i get that multicrew crash with him, i will send it the log and want a clear answer what is necessary to fix it.

Man. I wish that I could make 9 hyperjumps. I can sometimes make a couple, but never that many.

what? solo?

No, solo works fine. Multicrew is what borks. It kind of... flips a coin twice, if either comes up heads, the game just hangs and sits there in starting-to-hyperspace. Eventually the camera changes. At no point does it throw up a window and offer to disconnect, or even let me access ANY menu of ANY sort.

Disconnecting, I can live with. The complete lack of control and feedback is unacceptable.

between my friend and me - the difference is that he has a better connection, and most likely a better PC

given that the game works with a kind of peer2peer system, i suspect that one of the involved clients is hosting the "instances".
now what happens if the instance is created by client 1, but client 2 tries to drop into into it before its ready?

Well, in several other client-hosted games I've played, the game pauses and waits when I load in faster. If you hit menu, it gives you the option to exit. After a few seconds of waiting, it displays the time you have waited, and provides the option to keep waiting, or disconnect. This is a decent way to do it.

THIS system, it just hangs you waiting, no keys work, no chat works, you sit there bored waiting with no feedback whatsoever. Eventually, the camera switches to some weird interior cam, and the only way out is to manually kill the process externally from task manager.
