Hi there,
I normally don't post on the forums, but feel I should this time. Hope this is in the right section, I can't really seem to find the correct 'complaints' section. My apologies otherwise and please feel free to move appropriately.
First of all, appreciate the work you guys put into this game. I love playing it.
Now. I play this game for relaxation and only have very limited time to do so. I mostly choose to spend my time bounty hunting in various locations.
Couple of days ago I accidentally shot the wrong ship and got fined. Since I couldn't clean my ship in the facility I was docked in, I had to go look for Interstellar Factors. I had to google for a while to find out how and where I could find these 'Interstellar Factors'. I then - as it turned out - had to fly several systems to actually get there and clean my ship. And back again to continue my bounty hunting.
Just now, the same thing happened again. And in addition, in a silly moment I fired my guns inside the station and got destroyed. Bam: 1.6 million cost for an otherwise unneccessary rebuy - which is a lot of money for someone with limited playing time like me. And I woke up in... a detention centre several jumps from my bounty hunting system. In my Vulture. With very small fuel tanks. With no fuel scoop equipped. And no outfitting facilities to my disposal in the detention centre or anywhere else in that system to do something about that. In addition, the systems I passed on my way back to the bounty hunting system had no facilities to equip a scoop or refuel either. Well, the very first one did but I only found this out too far in the journey to either continue jumping back or forth at that point. With no options to escape the system I was in, and no facilities in that system, the only option for me at that point was to fly into the sun and self-destruct. Bam: another 1.6 million cost. And again I spawned inside the detention centre... So I was forced to find another system within my jump range with facilities to equip a fuel scoop, and only then jump back to my bounty hunting system.
The total cost of around 3,5 million is one thing. It really is a lot of money (and work!) for someone who only has limited time to play - especially while trying to earn that money bounty hunting - the hard way, as is it intended right?
The time it took me to get back to the bounty hunting system is another. It took all the time I had available to play at that point (actually, even more) and so there wasn't time left that day for me actually enjoy the game and relax. I had to log off from the game with a les than good mood (actually: simply p-ed off) and over 3,5 million credits lost instead of some earned.
Now, I don't whyne about other people making hundreds of millions using exploits such as the recent skimmer missions, while I have to WORK HARD and invest a LOT OF TIME (which I don't have) into it doing bounty hunting - an element that was designed into this game as a means of income was it not. It's not a secret that ED features a very time-consuming - and in the eyes of many people - unreasonably slow - income system. This in itself is one thing. But to have a punishment system in place that can cost you more than players like me can earn (back) in a reasonable amount of time just feels wrong. And to be honest, it's not the point of this punishment system either, is it?...
In short, I feel that the effect of the current punishment system is less than desirable and should be adjusted in some way. I don't think it can ever be a good idea to 'punish' players like myself with a series of events that lead to costs they cannot earn back in a reasonable amount of time. Secondly, I think it is unfair and unreasonable that players who choose to make their money using built-in processes like bounty hunting, get the short end of the stick this way.
This has really and seriously decreased the fun I have playing ED. I sincerely hope you guys will address this adequately.
On another, somewhat related note: As we're on the subject of making money, I generally feel the speed with which a player can make money using normal mechanics like bounty hunting, is far too slow compared to the enormous cost of most ships (and maintenance) and equipment. For people like me at least - with a family, a job etc. - it feels like you have to work seriously long to earn any usable amount of money. Then when you have to equip your ship, or even worse, rebuy it, the cost simply feels like a kick in the nutters. But that might be a different discussion entirely. Still, I wanted to have mentioned it.
Thanks for reading.
