Feedback - Titan decals - missed 1, don't care for the remaining ones

Just sharing some thoughts on this. I was on holidays when the 4th Titan was destroyed and I only managed to get on board a friend's ship in Multi Crew (Telepresence). I did receive Combat Bonds as part of that experience, but to my disappointment they didn't count for the decal.

Now I am completely demotivated to get involved in the remaining ones, as I know for a fact I won't be able to get all 8 decals. Also because I truly expected that this mechanics would apply to all the methods of participation - unless it's a bug that CB's collected from the Titan via multi-crew do not count for the decal.

(The role-play reasons are worn out too, as this Thargoid war has been going on for so long now that I'll be honest it got a bit stale - but that's a whole different topic).

For me personally, the incentive is gone. This FOMO gameplay elements are really a double-edged sword.

So what's the answer? (aside from obviously fixing the issue with multi-crew bonds not counting).

You were motivated to try and get the 8 star decal but not those up to and including the 7 star one (and all associated ship kits and paint jobs)?

Are folks who missed the very first Titan (Taranis) as unmotivated to get their 7 as you now find yourself? I guess getting one of these decals is more of a motivation then getting more than one so there will be folks still desparate to get their first (which also reminds me of the recent cargo rack CG where I imagine there was far less motivation after the change to make top 50% and get two racks than there was to get one).

I've climbed mount Snowdon (not the big a deal but I'm glad I did it). Am I motivated to climb it twice? Not really. What would motivate me to climb it again? Well the experience (especially with friends) was great. And the experience of bombing a Titan is great, good enough to do it several times. But eight times? (without the added incentive of a unique decal for doing all eight), probably not. Not sure what I'm saying really ... just that I have a mild shrug reaction to this (aside from the multi-crew issue). Hence the question ... what do you think the answer to the problem is? (if indeed there is one).

I don't know if there is a general answer tbh.

The feeling of accomplishment comes from different things, reward for activity being one of them. The answer will be different for everyone I guess.

For me - I'm not sure if any cosmetic or Credits reward would be enough to get me back to get involved in Titan bombing. I mean it's fun and really really good gameplay, I'm just not interested in it anymore, been there done that got about 3/8ths of a t-shirt lol

Since I mostly play ED for roleplay and story - if for example destroying each Titan got us a piece of code to decode the home system of the Thargoids... or something similar related to the storyline. For me that would certainly be an incentive.

Also, don't get me wrong, I think it's great that we get rewards like that in the game. I can definitely appreciate that. All I'm saying is that this particular reward was a double edge sword for me personally.

It's the same here to be entirely honest. Currently I'm 5-for-5 on the decals but it's probably only the lure of getting all eight that will keep me coming back for the remaining three. If I miss one then I'm probably done too. Well ... and maybe the last one ... gotta be there for the last one right?

Here's an idea ... make it so those involved in taking down a given Titan are awarded a salvage licence by the Pilots Federation and only those with such a licence are allowed back into the cloud after the Titan has been destroyed. Also make it that each cloud (because of the unique properties of the star system within which that Titan explosion occured) has a different selection of high grade materials and emission data adrift within it (i.e. so each cloud becomes a new source of valuable engineering materials only available to those that helped make it possible).

Not getting decals and ship kits for not being there is fine for me (also currently 5/5 myself) BUT restricting access to materials and areas that may be required later would be a hard no for me.
This would be especially hard on those out in the Black or working.

Can't say I didn't see that one coming. It's hard isn't it. People like getting some kind of reward for doing a thing but the minute the game gives them that reward, those who missed out on it get annoyed. In this example I'm not saying the materials would be unique (or even necessarily "required"). It would be like having access to another crystal shard forest ... a good (perhaps excellent) place to go to farm materials that are also available elsewhere, but certainly not the only place.

It could be an issue if those Titan debris fields are eventually used for another salvage CG. Assuming Frontier ever stop sitting on it, anyway. Some of us might be inclined to participate in that activity without wanting to shoot at a Titan (whatever that reason may be, for me it’s RP based… saying that, since the story support for what was supposed to be a story-centric feature got dropped, I don’t want this boring Titan turkey shoot to go on either, even if I technically enjoy the Thergoid fighting it provides in invasions and control systems).

I was literally in work when Taranis went boom. And given that the caustic sinks hadn't been made available to everyone yet on my days off that week, I ended up not getting in there for that one. FOMO mechanics are genuinely a pain in the backside for people who have lives and jobs outside of the video game.

Indeed the sequential decals seem quite unlike anything else prior! Having thought about this for a bit now, I think the best approach would have been not to have that sequence at all, and instead just have one single unique decal per Titan. One independent event then yields one independent reward, as with all others before it, and showing a quite nice T. Taranis sticker is of no less value for having missed a T. Hadad sticker—nor of any more value for holding a T. Oya sticker in your pocket!

Also a bit questionable is recognising Titan damage specifically; it takes hundreds of Commanders to repel Alerts, defend Invasions and evict Controls for many months to just to reach a Titan! Based on that, perhaps a better idea for decals generally could have been more like activity badges, earning different designs for different war actions such as Conflict zones, Port evacuations, Signal salvage and Titan rescues. If a decal existed for contributing to clearing 10 Control systems, I think the Galaxy would be safe within a few weeks!

For me personally, the incentive is gone.

Very true in the context of the eight-Titan decal; I think Frontier had a similar thought in offering also the Ship kits and Arx per Titan ring. It would be lovely if each individual Titan rewarded something genuinely appealing to everyone willing to attack it, and becomes no less for omitting one!

Indeed T. Taranis was bizarre due to the Monday release of Nanite torpedos, followed by Caustic sink and Pulse neutraliser availability on Thursday, then entering meltdown Friday afternoon. That said, everyone had exactly a year to unlock their Caustic sinks before that event, and most of a year to unlock the Pulse neutraliser!

Obtaining the modules later and attacking T. Leigong ought still have given a reward not lessened by not having attacked T. Taranis, though.

This exact feedback has been voiced a number of times already. Usually the forums had just condescending remarks to offer. Maybe it will go better this time with the mod name tag.
If I could I would give you 100 likes for that comment.

The problem is not with missing one or more Titan death. The problem is with the person feeling like it lost something there never was. It is like me not having access to the Cobra mk4. No one is to blame.

My suggestion would be to re-use all the game assets after the Thargoid war narrative completes by means of having them as a kind of PP2.0 power somewhere in the Col 70 or so. Place some 20 titans there and announce that every kill there will also count for the decals up to 8. People will then have an incentive to continue playing the current loops and jump-start the new narrative as well ("bring their war to them now"). Unfortunately that would mean to spill the beans a bit and will most likely not happen, no matter how many complain (or who).

This was the entire problem with the whole goid experience. Miss one bit of grind for whatever equipment you need for job-de-jour and you're left behind. Frankly I'm surprised anyone could be donkeyed to do any of it. 🤷‍♂️
Cant agree entirely with this one, i think Fdev did a great job in making sure everyone could get the modules.
I think it was the Titan pulse wave thing i missed when out in the bubble, only took me a few hours to unlock once i got back.

I myself have not missed any decals yet, but I have thought about this issue, and I do think it will gradually lead to less and less participants, which is an issue.

I do think maintaining the exclusivity of the decals and ship kits is important, but that doesn't mean there can't be other ways to acquire them. For example, if you are a player who does the most damage to a given heart, maybe you could make up for One Missed Titan. Or maybe if you are in the top 10% overall. That way, it is difficult but possible, and will encourage these players to play even harder.

Similar but different, I waited for the Krait ship kit... but when I got it I thought it looked god awful. I was stunned. So ship kits.. absolutely no incentive for me there. And I missed a titan, so no 8-star badge in my future.

For me personally, the incentive is gone. This FOMO gameplay elements are really a double-edged sword.

Double edged sword is right. I returned to the bubble a few months ago from big exploration to participate. But its soooo loooong and draaaaged out. I do enjoy some of the Thargoid activities... but am I supposed to wait around in the bubble for a couple more months? Why? I think its time for me to pack up and go.

I'm pretty sure there will always be some more Thargoids to shoot and Titans to fire bombs at.

I know the feeling, I'm itching to get back out there, but new ships, a look at PP2 and the Titans are keeping the Carrier in port.
