With Mission that involve either the Randomly generated "outposts" or ones at the fixed surface locations, the idea, as I understand it, was that the SRV is used as it can move in relatively undetected, where a ship would be immediately detected and interacted.
SRVs and other surface objects are hard for Cmdrs ships to lock on to and engage
Now a lot of these sites also have ship patrols to complement the Skimmers, and provide an obstacle for attempt to complete the mission just with a ship, if it is a destroy mission.
But it seems the NPC ships not only easily spot the Cmdr SRVs but recently follow them forever, with no way to evade or hide from a patrol ship even after over a 100 km of fleeing.
And said NPC Patrol ship will be very accurate in shooting the SRV
I raised this here

I just had another simple, scan our outpost we lost contact with, mission, which seems like it should be within the capabilities of an SRV.
There might be Skimmers a ground to ground turret , an anti ship turret.
But nothing an approaching using terrain in an SRV cannot handle
What I found was
A Cutter and a Clipper and as soon a GU-97 as well.
All shooting very accurately at my lone SRV
Now I am not suggesting that the ships could not be there, but more
Have Ground Defences for Ground approach, and restrict the Ships for dealing with other ships, for if a Cmdr. tries an air assault or there are combined SRV and ship attacks or approaches.
Yes I welcome a challenge from ground forces and turrets, and even skimmers help in reserve to ambush on the escape, but I mean there is nothing an SRV can do against the GU97 let another all three.
And this was a scan the outpost no need to shoot mission, but when faced with such, all there is to do is lose the SRV and revert back to the ship, which is less than satisfying
