Feedback with regards to the Spring Roadmap

Up untill now I always had a feeling like I had to choose between Planet Coaster 1 and Planet Coaster 2 as both games had it's pro's and con's :

Planet Coaster 1
  • Custom Music / Billboards
  • Hotels
  • Synchronised Coasters
  • Broad range of shops
  • Virtually unlimited scenery pieces with TMT
  • Broad selection of rides including Rocktopus, Power Moves, Quick Draw (shooting ride), etc
  • Interchangable trains
  • Classic Theme Park Themes (Western, Pirate, etc)
  • Stable and relative bug free

Planet Coaster 2
  • Water Parks
  • Sticking Scenery on rides and moving objects
  • Lacking diverse shops (not even fries!!)
  • New rides
  • New themes
  • Better Mixmaster
  • Weather
  • Many bugs and unstable behaviour
  • Real darkness inside buildings

All in all I feel that Planet Coaster 2 feels like it has a lot of potential into the future, yet at the current state I don't feel its a better game then Planet Coaster 1 currently is. If I want to play Planet Coaster I usually have to think about which of the 2 games I want to start up depending on what I want to do. In the end I usually start neither but rather wait for a time where all pro's will be united into 1 game.
I remember an Interview before release stated that Planco 2 could not be seen as an add-on, but rather a new game alltogether. While it sounded nice at the time, it turns out that many of us regretted this decission. Planet Coaster 1 was an amazing game, and it should have kept all (most) of the elements that made the game so amazing. (Don't get me wrong, Planet Coaster 2 is still an amazing game imo)

I was VERY pleased to see the spring roadmap as it seems like both Frontier and the community agree we want/need most features from the original game back!
  • Custom music / Billboards
  • Synchronised Coasters
  • Interchangable trains

All above were announced to make a return very soon, and even (some) classic themes were hinted as possibly making a return (YES!!). As a Planco fanatic my wishlist is never ending but I'm very happy and relieved to see the path we are currently taking! I hope we will continue down this path of adding both missing features from Planco 1 and NEW features into Planet Coaster 2.

Just my 2 cents :)

The add-on thing is something to see different.
While an add-on is like a dlc, but mostly adding completely new features (like RCT3 + add-on Soaked + add-on Wild). In PC1 it was dead in development very soon because of the game engine version. It already was clear that a possible PC2 has to be done with a new engine version (like for PZ).
In gereral, PC2 is PC1 with new features and developed with a newer engine. Most of it's content is from PC1. So the title PC2 is absolutely correct and not a "different" game.

The question is why as much stuff in PC2 isn’t working (which was working in PC1)?

Thanks for your reply!

Technically you are 100% correct. Under the hood the game made a lot of changes so Planco 2 could have never been an add-on.

I was more speaking content wise where an add-on would still give you everything you already had + more. People were thrilled that the game was a new game technical wise, but didn't realize this ment that a lot of what we had would be taken away with uncertaincy if it would (ever) come back. What I ment was that both fans and Frontier now seem to realize people don't want to lose the features we all enjoyed :)

Thats why I'm very glad to see the current direction in which features from the first game are being broad back in high pace.
Again, technical wise you are 100% correct, maybe my terminology was a bit strange as I was more talking about the content :)

I totally agree with this observation. And because both PC1 and PC2 are so similar stylistically, that made the expectations that PC2 would just build on PC1 but with a better engine and additional water park content more common among many people.

Exactly!

I honestly just don't understand the concept of releasing a successor to the original game, but not have the same components which made that game a success. It honestly feels half baked - the new stuff we have should be new, not instead of.

I basicly want a mix of pc1, pc2 and pz hahaha. I want pc1 feature set and items, pc2 scaling, ray tracing and pools and pz gift shops (Minus having to create a custom floor layout. So i can dd gift shops to my exsisting builds). Thats kind of what i was expecting at launch tbh. The best of pc1 and pz mixed into one game.
