Feel like we need a general chat thing.

It would be nice to have a chat of some kind on the website where people could come together and ask questions and share knowledge without having to make new threads on the forum. And perhaps an in game thing like a system coms channel where everyone in system could chat.

There are little questions that people have all the time that don't warrant making a forum post. Where can I find a class 2 gimbled multicannon for example.

Ps. Seriously where can I find a class 2 gimbled multicannon...

Oh, this wasn't what I thought, I think we need an official place, there's a few unofficial ones floating around but whenever I've joined there's little chat going on. There IS the skype channel which is active enough and I imagine more active now.

I agree, system-wide chat within the station instance would be great. So maybe in the station and then out to appx 200km (the old exit SC range)

a general chat built into the stations (or only some high tech stations) would be a great idea! but only the stations.. not in your ship please.

Busy systems would feel populated, far away places would be silent. Unless you like talking to yourself.
How would that take away that Elite feel?

System chat would add so much to the game. Seriously incredible amounts. People that don't want to see chat (I understand where they are coming from) can turn it off.

Chat adds *sooo* much to the games community, to events in the world, to spotaneity, asking for people, warning, setting traps.. it's all glorious, and it's just lame to prevent it because "1% of the population occassionally tries to annoy others by saying annoying things, and 1% of the rest of the population actually gets bothered by this and complains about it on the forums rather than just turning it off like you can"

Yes, and your point is? As I said, busy, statistically insignificant concentrations of humanity will feel busy, the rest will be silent.

It's "system-wide" chat channel, not "galaxy-wide". I still do not see a problem. Except if we don't have superluminal communication technology in the lore, and still rely on radio, then that could be a con-argument. Though you'd think we would have mastered simple things like quantum entanglement by the year 3000. ;)

Yes I agree, station chat and local chat (as options to turn on and off as we feel like it) would be nice as long as we have the choice of blocking someone if necessary

I consider station/local vicinity chat a must sooner or later.

And I dont see the problem with system or even galaxy wide chat, it would make the game feel alive and make it a bit more social.
Would also help new players since they would be able to ask questions directly ingame.

And these channels would be optional so whoever wants can opt out of it and they wouldnt even notice any difference so again, whats the problem?

Thos wanting chat get it, thos not wanting doesnt, everyones happy.

A station chat would be good to have until we were able to get out of our ships and go to like a bar or something on the station.
So we can find people to team up and with so on.
