Feeling a bit annoyed about configurable components grind (no, I´m not going to say I´m leaving!)

So summarizing: I have been playing as Cmdr M. Volgrand, a Canonn Scientist, explorer, bounty hunter and a semi-professional CQC player. As part of the role I decided to play, is a guy that REALLY despises pirates and the likes, and would not hesitate on killing any pirate that crosses his way in the universe.

Now: Trying to improve my ships to better engage the Thargoid interceptors in a 1v1 basis, I decided to get the meta-alloys hull reinforcement. Thing is, I need configurable components. Thing is, it is very difficult to get them in random USS spawns (yes, I know, low security, ship wreckages, combat aftermath and high grade emissions, I do check Inara for that information :D).

But after 2 days of travelling around and gathering, literally, 3 configurable components (+1 I got from a materials trader) I have decided to ignore the roleplay for a bit and go for the easy solution: Extraction anarchy system and destroy transport ships.

Yeah, yeah, I know, "just a game, dude". However it does bother me to have to play a role against my commander's role just to get an obvious improvement to actually... Defend mankind from the Thargoid incursions! Yeah, by destroying innocent cargo ships and miners, I see the irony on this too.

Am I the only one that feels like this?

I would suggest trading down improvised components if you can tolerate HGE hunting (I can't). If not and you want a roleplay reason to hunt ships for them, join a powerplay power and go undermining, you can kill trade ships with an in universe reason to do so and they can and do drop them. If you really want to roleplay, you can only undermine the pirate power.

You could always just cross-trade? Expensive (1:6 ratio)? Sure, but thanks to missions, I have too many Modified Embedded Firmwares / Exquisite Focus Crystals. I just cross-trade them as getting them are way easier, and I have more fun doing it.

Engineering a corvette and an FDL recently, configurable components were the one mat i just could not get. In the end had to swallow the terrible exchange rate at the mat trader and grab a few there just to get the job done.
