Are passengers profits shown separately? That can count to trade
Missions dont count there. I am at 60% tycoon with even less. You need to get to about a billion or so, but Robigo never counted. I guess the newer versions dont count either, but I stopped after the 'fail on scan' was removed.
I am entrepreneur 34% (1 level below tycoon) and have 130 M in profits. Is it just profit that determine rank?

I thought there was a profit vs time/distance calculation involved somehow so that efficiency played a part in the ranking? maybe that was something that was planned early on and dropped though?
Hes right, mission will push your elite trade trank but they will not do anything with the stats about how much money you made with trading.
And Yes, Mining counts toward trade rank when you sell your stuff at a station but it does properly increase both stats, so when it goes up 5 mil in mining profits it also goes up in 5 mil in trading profits.
mining is at 44mil profits. What I noticed is that a delivery mission worth 2mil will add 1% to my trade rank.
Things may have changed, when i got my Elite Trading rank I had about 1070 million tradeprofit, but that is a fair bit of time ago. Ofcourse now you seem to be able to get quite a bit of traderanking done through simple mission running.
Smuggling also counts.
Elite Trader here, App. 400 mill. credits from trade, missions must count else it does not make sense :S

I'm pretty sure that mining counts towards the trade profit. I do very little trading that's not rare goods, smuggling or missions, yet my trade profit is fairly high.
Had to be missions as that what pushed me alot of my trade rank
