Felicity Farseer tease

Just done the trek (600 ly) to get meta alloys for Felicity. Upon delivering the item, she unlocked my first level. I got no upgrades to my FSD, just requests for items scattered all over the place.
Seems like old Felicity is a true politician, promises much and delivers little except frustration.☹️

Don't feel like faffing about looking for all these bits, I have no confidence she's going to deliver next time!

Back to exploring with my non enhanced Aspx!😉

You're saying you didn't realise you'd have to supply mat's to get engineering mod's done?

All I can tell you is, you can collect most of the mat's you need for anything up to G4 mod's quite easily as you play the game.
Just make sure you collect up mat's when you see them.

No, I had no idea what she was going to ask me to supply, other than the meta alloys. The additional shopping list only appeared after I'd delivered the requested items. How do you get advanced knowledge of her list of requisitions?
None of the items are purchased from trading, frame wake scanning for example. The Iron needs to be mined, so I need to equip for mining I assume?
😞

No, material collection is quite separate from mining.

All you need is a ship with an SRV. Find a planet / moon that is landable, and preferably volcanic (in fact, don't waste time with anything that isn't).

Head to a volcanic hotspot on a planet, land, and get into your SRV. Then check your contacts list and watch your scanner until you find something (Needle crystals, Piceous Cobble, that kind of thing).

Shoot it, then open your cargo scoop, and collect.

Rinse and repeat.

you need to read up on Engineers.
Unfortunately there's little info on that in game.
Try this:

You do get a little bit of materials from mining though, but exclusively from the old style mining with mining lasers. When getting the data back from a prospecting limpet, it will tell you whether the rock contains little or heaps of mats. Set everything else (you don't care about) to ignore, and go harvest away!

Thanks, that's something else I never knew.

To be pedantic, you're not going to get a wide variety of mat's in the SRV, unless you visit somewhere like Dav's Hope.

The OP has an awful lot to learn about Raw mat's, Manufactured mat's and Encoded mat's - and where to find them all.
And then there's all the stuff about mat-traders too.

OP, kind of confused here. Are you saying that since Dec 2014 (when you joined this forum) you have never seen mentioned anything about mats? So no third party help at all for the game?
Correct! But in my defense, I have not played Elite for 4 years and never read any posts on the forums. So you could say I'm going into the game as a new player, with no inside knowledge gleaned from those who have boldly gone before me!
Seems like a pre requisite to success is to read up on everything to do with a task.
Ultimately, it's not very entertaining if you haven't got a clue about what to expect.
Hay ho, nevermind!🤗

Your correct! I haven't a clue what all this terminology is about. I'm a relic from the past, when Energy Bombs ruled the Elite universe.
I'll stick to simpler things, my head hurts from the prospect of all the research!🤣

The in-game documentation is getting a lot better (not hard, really). Both the early training missions, but also the documentation within the Codex as well as in the descriptions of the materials. So you can largely get away with not using 3rd party sources. I don't really use anything not in the game, except if I'm truly stuck at something such as figuring out you need to target subtargets on megaships to give your drones (hatch-breaker or recon) to get something to play with. Had to google that one.

I just checked out of curiosity and when it comes to Engineers, game does not explain awful lot. CODEX doesn't say anything about how that works and concept of materials is not explained at all.

Although there's also manual (linked in the game launcher):

Haha yes, the manual. Mostly an overview that one. I thought the Codex had a few explanatory pages. One thing that does bug me is that to read about a material you need to have already found it once. At least you can also read its description when presented with the need for it at an Engineer's base.

Yes exactly, the first time I read about the required material was when I read about the need for it at Farseers base. No way for me to know about the requirements in advance. So, psychologically, this left me feeling frustrated and not wanting to continue after 4 hours of Jumping! If, once you accept her invitation, she gave you a list of her extra requirements, at least you could try and gather them on route. Just my two penneth.🥴
